If Creighton leaves, I'm going to miss the Valley

Postby Pinkie » March 14th, 2013, 11:38 am

I think I speak for a lot of CU fans when I say that I am really going to miss the Valley and all the rivalries that have developed over the years. Arch Madness is a special tournament for CU and not being there next March will leave some sadness no doubt.

I don't really understand the antagonism either way as I think that CU has been good for the MVC and the MVC has been very good for Creighton. This is an opportunity that the university simply cannot pass up if we are invited. If we do go to the Big East, I'll still be watching and cheering for the MVC.

Go Jays. Go MVC.

I agree, BJ is going to miss the Valley.

I know I wouldn't, but WSU has the kind of deep pockets that would step forward in a situation like this. The majority of the delay in BJ announcing the move is due to their lack of financial resources. They are very nervous about the excess costs associated with the conference move and the east coast schools do not want to offer additional assistance. BJ has their ticket prices maxed out as evidenced by the massive amount of giveaways they must offer to fill the upper bowls every game. Their leadership wonders if they can raise prices to help cover costs while facing the real possibility of losing seasons going forward.

Club BJ has done everything they can to prepare for such an opportunity, it's not their fault they are a tiny private school located in the middle of nowhere. Wichita State is fortunate to have alums that not only give heavily to the program, but stand by ready to give more if needed. And then they have Charles Koch standing by who has said in the past, that he will give money when it makes sense for the university. He was approached for the Roundhouse Renovation, he liked the plan, and he cut a check for 6 million.

Classic hooks Cold! 8-)

Shox have done a great job of developing and nurturing big booster relationships resulting in great resources compared to the remainder of the Valley

Too bad about the knee, though.

I can feel the anguish, pain and the fear for WSCC's future from a few hundred miles away...and I must say it makes me chuckle.

Your post made very little sense.

There may be some jealousy at the opportunity to escape the Valley but certainly no fear. Or at least from those well informed of the situation. Wichita State has full control of its destiny with regards to national competitiveness. We have the money and we (now) have the coaching. BJ had/has absolutely no impact on our program except for being a decent team to schedule every year. Those games can be replaced.

WCC = Wichita Country Club

Wouldn't it just be "WCC's" since I don't know of any state community college's?

Classy post CU fan. The valley will no doubt miss you guys too. We will survive but it will take a hit, hopefully just for awhile. I think Creighton will struggle in the new conference but from a money standpoint I agree it is impossible to pass up. I just hope the checks are worth the 6th or 7th place finishes that will become accustom to bluejay fans. Also having to travel so far to see a conference tournament would suck. After year one where everyone will be excited I would suspect Creighton will draw one of the smallest crowds at MSG. I will be rooting for Creighton but I just dont see it being a good move long term basketball wise. Money wise its a slam dunk but on the floor it is not.

I just don't think you can speak with such certainty about how the Big East will treat Creighton. It's a whole new ballgame and while there will likely be a transition period it won't mean that whatever happens in year one or two will be the fate of the Jays going forward. You may hope that is their fate, but don't pretend you have any expertise on the matter.

The sandbox is different, but so are the toys Creighton will be bringing along.

I'm curious as to why you and others feel this way. With providence, sh, depaul, and Sj, that's 3 road wins and 4 home wins in a good year. Butler, nova and Xavier are washes, and we are a little behind Marquette and gt ( ok a lot). A couple of upsets both ways, and we we are anywhere from 9-9 to 13-5 in conference. Maybe better, maybe worse. That's enough for an at large most years out of this league. Now up the recruiting with more money and exposure, and we close the gap on the top two.

The big east is in line for 6 bids out of 12 members if it was going this year. A good league for sure, but we are far from the bottom feeders. Hard to believe we would drop in competitiveness from where we have been the last 15 years. As for the mcd arguement, people said we would drop off after sears, korver, funk, tollivar, and young too. But I am open to an intellectual discussion as to why I am wrong.
