Every conference needs a Northwestern, DePaul, Auburn, etc. As a UNI fan, I am hoping Drake continues their death spiral back to irrelevance. We have enough competition recruiting Iowa kids away from ISU, Iowa, and CU. Adding another quality program right in the middle of the state would water down the field even more.

I also think Drake is a sleeping monster, which scares me a little. They are in a large market and have the history to gain momentum quickly. If they really cared about MBB and wanted DSM support, they would play at Vets and pony up some big bucks for a new coach. Something tells me this isn't going to happen and my wish will come true.

Vet's is not a good place to play...assuming it was still usable....for a D1 university.

I'm shocked they haved tried playing at Wells - other than the fact it's extremely tough to get a good atmosphere in there and the fans Drake would bring in wouldn't help.

I think if Drake gets to the point where they're routinely selling out the Knapp Center, then they will probably consider playing some games at Wells Fargo. Getting the dates they want might be tough, with the place already being used by the NBDL team and with rumors of the return of an AHL team to the arena.

It's hard to say right now, since we don't really know who the candidates are...anything in the Des Moines Register or elsewhere is purely speculation.

My preference is somebody who will play an aggressive, fast-paced style of play. I think fans like that style, and I know that players do. Priority #1 for new coach is getting people to come out and watch the Bulldogs.

I think that Nick Nurse is an intriguing name. He has virtually no college experience, but has an extensive history as a head coach (in Europe and the NBDL). He's a local guy, and I've heard that he would be interested. As a pro coach, I think he'd bring in a style of play that the players would enjoy. But, he would be a big question mark as far as recruiting, as he hasn't been in the college game for a long time.

My guess is that it will end up being somebody who nobody in the fan base even thought about.

I know that fans of other MVC teams might disagree, but I think Drake has a very solid group of players returning next season that could finish in the upper half of the MVC with the right coach.

Do any DU fans know how much Phelps was making? Likewise, I would be curious if they could tell me what Dr. Tom and Keno were paid.

Even a ballpark estimate would be informative since I have no idea. Are we talking 250k; 500k; 650k, etc?

Phelps was making $275,000 as of 2010, so probably a little more than that now. No idea what the Davis' made.
