MVC Commish Doug Elgin press conference

Said a lot following the announcement that Creighton is leaving, but nothing earth shattering. I'll try to post audio if I can.

-MVC would be fine with 9 teams next season
-Elgin thinks 10 is the right number of teams
-not going to rush adding a new school
-does not expect any additional departures
-Creighton has no exit fee, but will not receive distribution of NCAA funds

I would hate to leave the Valley at 9 teams next year. Doesn't that mean everyone would have to schedule two extra games? (Not for sure if there is a minimum of games that teams have to play every year.) Valley teams for the most part already have a hard time scheduling a decent non-con schedule this would just add to it for next season.

so while other conferences add potential MVC schools to their leagues, the MVC will sit by and watch?

I am not one of those crazy Doug Elgin haters by any means, but would it honestly kill Elgin to be a little candid and say something of actual substance for once? My God, they call a press conference and the entirety of his statements can pretty much be summed up as "eh, we'll see what happens".

Hopefully Creighton wins the national championship and gets no money to show for it

But in all seriousness I wish the conference would go after a little bit of an exit fee something like a million

It was presented at a much higher number. Presidents wouldn't go for it or any fee for that matter, other than the forfeiture of distribution.

Elgin either needs to land a nice replacement by next year or move on. He does not impress me at all.

Other than not having one team play each conference game night what exactly is the problem with 9 teams?

Heck It was my initial belief that just simply sticking with 9 would be best. Then I was persuaded that nobody from the league admin to the school AD's/coaches wanted that for scheduling reasons. It just might be best to sit back and see how it goes for a year. Besides there will always be a pile of s*** team to add, why be in such a hurry?

Elgin only had about 4 hours to figure out what he was going to say, what did you expect?

Seem like what he really said was:

1. They are in preliminary discussion with some schools.

2. If something is going to happen, June 30 is the deadline for this year.

3. They are prepared to go next year with only 9 teams.

4. The MVC presidents will make the final decision

5. No other MVC school is threatening to leave.
