When Geno was hired by Bradley, he wasn't on anyone's radar, really. I think fairly there were initial concerns due to his limited DI track record (he took over a pretty good situation at Kent), his personality and connections he brought with him, made him a slam dunk hire in my book. He was able to assemble a phenomenal staff and appears he will be able to recruit at a clip not much differently than Marshall. So I really like the hire, even though he wouldn't have been high on my list.

To answer the question about Marshall - pretty excited. We had one of the best AD's in MVC history and the phrase 'In Schaus We Trust' had been long established so we all knew it would work out great. Gotta love a guy who loves being the hunter, no matter how much he wins. I don't think he will ever tire of "getting another BCS scalp".

I think the brief Giacoletti hire was under Turgeon. But I remember it was supposed to be a good hire. Doesn't seem like he's had much success as the head guy, though.

I really hated MSU hiring Lusk (but only because he's a Saluki).

Considering Hinson was a replacement for Lowery, I was ecstatic.

About the only way I would have been upset would have been was had the hire been Jerry Sandusky.

When Marshall was hired I was not very excited. If he was so good, why hadn't other schools hired him away from Winthrop during his 10 years? Was he damaged goods?

Man, I like being wrong!!!!!

Exactly...in defense of him not leaving Winthrop before he did, it's all about the opportunity. He was happy at Winthrop. It took an unbelievable opportunity for him to consider leaving the east. He is back in that same boat. It would take an unbelievable opportunity to leave WSU. Look at Shaka...I heard he just turned down UCLA. What...a team with the greatest history in college basketball history offers the job to the coach at VCU and he turns it down. It's a new day in the coaching carousel. Marshall doesn't need to go to a BCS school to be relevant. Go Marshall & go Shox!!! :bounce:

Marshall, Shaka, Stevens, and Jacobson are all in the same boat on that one...

I disagree...Jacobson is making half what these other three are making. They may be all relevant as non BCS schools, but you have to pay to keep them as well. You may say he has turned down other jobs, but their are two jobs out there that could dwarf what he is making at UNI.

I think the simple point was, all four have turned down opportunities to make more to stay at their respective school.

Minnesota and (??? not sure what other school you're talking about) could offer Jacobson a contract, and it would likely be about double what he's making now. I don't think anyone would throw anything approaching $2 million at him.

If WSU makes the final four, what's to stop UCLA from offering Marshall $2-$3 million a year? I don't think they will, and I hope he doesn't take it if they do, but I think your argument is invalid. There's always a bigger fish.
