Well I hope Ray learned some things from Mark Few. He is a nice guy and I hope he does well at Drake.

Oddly another coach with NDSU connections is in the MVC....stay away from Saul Phillips please MVC schools.

Andy Katz ‏@ESPNAndyKatz 3h: Drake hiring Ray Giacoletti is a coup for the Valley. Loss for Mark Few's staff at Gonzaga. Giacoletti never got his due at Utah.

Not the most inspiring hire and I know I was critical of his candidacy too but it could work out Drake fans. He is competent and from what I have heard a legitimately good guy. This won't make headlines but if he does a great job that won't ultimately matter. I hope that these are two sides that sought each other out and not each one sighing and resigning themselves to the fact that this is perhaps the best each of us can do. Because Drake could have gone for the big time guy.

Drake's new motto after replacing D+ - Hired on a Thursday, lose on a Thursday, fired on a Thursday.

Before he was hired by Creighton, Dana Altman was a failure in the Big 8 (19-37 record). I think that worked out ok.

I'm certainly willing to give the guy a chance. He has one thing already going for him............he's not Mark Phelps.

Well, you didn't hire Chris Lowery or Steve Merfeld or Royce Waltman. I guess that's the best thing I can say about Mr. Giacoletti.

BTW: Is that pronounced GEE-uh-COH-let-TI?

Well, you won't get much positive reaction from Bradley fans. His name was brought up during our search. The overwelming reaction was no. I think most think he is a nice guy that won't have big success.

He might succeed. He had a very good conference record at Eastern Washington. That would indicate to me that playing against similar competition with similar resources, he apparently coached well. He HAS to be a better game coach than Phelps. He is talking about running and rebounding, which would be very welcome changes around here.
