The more relevant question is where is George Mason now? They made the Final Four, would anyone from WSU be proud to say they tried to recruit a player but he went to George Mason because they made a Final Four?

Their coach left for Miami. If he was still at George Mason, George Mason would enjoy the benefits of the Final Four run. VCU absolutely has. Butler absolutely has.

The problem with mid-majors making NCAA runs is that the credit goes to the coach, not to the program. And rightly so. But the program only benefits if the coach remains. If the coach takes off, the program just got lucky and had a great coach for a while -- ala George Mason.

If Marshall leaves the way Turgeon did, absolutely, I don't know how much we'll get out of this long term. If he stays, that's another story entirely. Smart has already turned VCU into a national name and it's retained its importance because of him staying there. He has the opportunity to build a program that's greater than its coach -- but that takes sustained success.

The thread question is settled but what makes it interesting now is WSU may get to play the Blue Devils.

Why insert yourself here? Needling has been carefully limited to Creighton fans. I have actually said many complimentary things about the job Barry did at your school this year.

But, as reflected below, I'm sure you would hope for a crummy hire by any MVC team. Enjoy your misery.

I am crossing my fingers for 1 MVC bid. if my Saluki's cannot be good, I certainly don't want any other MVC team to be good either.

I will worry about the MVC being strong again when the Saluki's are strong again.

Short term the answer is WSU.

Long term it's up in the air...WSU didn't parlay their season into a conference invite that's going to be far stronger than the MVC and give them a chance to be mediocre and make the tournament.

As far as this season...keep winning...more $$ for the conference.

Gotta go with Wichita St. I really felt that Creighton was overall fairly disappointing this season. They didn't exactly get any favors by getting Duke in the 3rd round, but I thought they were at least a Sweet 16 team.

Wichita St. has been nothing short of impressive after everyone they lost last season.

Creighton did not get into the "Big East" because of their success this season. Athletics had their role but institutional politics and other factors had a much bigger role.
