MVC in preliminary talks with ORU?

I would agree that attempting to pillage the WAC or the A-10 makes more sense than keeping to our midwest roots. Adding one (or three) of the top teams in either of those conferences would be much more attractive than anything ORU/SDSU/NDSU could bring. even taking SLU out of the equation, there are still teams who the MVC should be looking at in the A-10.

Considering mileage:

New Mexico State (a college some are advocating) is 576 miles from WSU.
They are 1,205 miles from ISU
(I'm assuming those are the closest and farthest for the purpose of this discussion)

Using those mileages as a distance barometer, I'd be talking with any University within that range...
within the A-10:
VCU
Richmond
Dayton

within the WAC:
New Mexico St.
Louisiana Tech
Denver

Some of these obviously have more draw than others. There are other schools that make sense to me as well outside of the football issue for some...

Memphis
Southern Miss
UTEP
Tulsa (makes a helluva lot more sense than ORU)

Outside of that, it's probably best to look at pilfering a top team from a next tier conference:
Valpo
Detroit
Belmont


I don't really have the time to look up football programs for all those schools, but if we are talking about expanding the MVC, getting 1 or 3 of these teams makes sense before anyone says ORU or Dakotas.

EDIT: Before anyone flames be re: Louisiana Tech, take a look at their 3 and 5 year trend. They wouldn't be a sexy add, but that trend tells me they are a better add than either of the dakotas or ORU, even though they are probably last or 2nd to last on the list above for me.

Look at the Big East's associate members. FBS football conferences are able to add teams only for football if they have their sports in a conference that does not have football.

Any program that has FBS football but is only looking at an associate membership (as many teams have done in the Big East, and NMSU is doing in the Sun Belt), not only would look at the Valley but HAVE to look at a conference like the Valley that doesn't have "big boy football."

In this sense, not having FBS football is significantly better for expansion than having BAD FBS football.

I've seen on here that Dayton and SLU are going to the NBE after next year but I've seen nothing in an article confirming this. If they are going to the NBE, why wouldn't they already be gone? At the very worst, they are in limbo.

True enough but other than NMSU which of the schools listed are in conferences that require membership in all sports. All of them. Other than NMSU all of these schools are already in conferences for all sports including big boy football.

Wasn't really suggesting anyone. Just making a logistical point regarding what teams we can look at for expansion.

We can look at "big boy football teams" when the possibility opens up under those requirements. Not sure it'll happen very often, but when it does, no reason we shouldn't be involved.
