It probably doesn't matter much how they do in the new league. They will still be in the new league and WSU will still be in the MVC
And CU will probably be continuing their run of 1st-round losses or round of 32 losses in the NCAA's if CU actually makes the tourney. While WSU will be knocking off some more of their S16 and F4 finishes in the tourney.
CU couldn't make the S16 with the Valley DPoY and a national PoY candidate. Once both of those are gone, and looking at McDermott's track record, I don't see where CU fans have any justification for the optimism they're showing.
If CU fans think they're moving into one of the power conferences, most of the schools that made the BEast the bottom-feeder of the power conferences, were the FB schools. McDermott was a decent Valley coach, but he was a dismal failurew t a higher level.
McDermott will probably be an adequate coach at the level the Big Priest will be playing. McDermott pretty well proved he couldn't handle B12 coaching. If anybody expects the Big Priest to rival the B12, then those people need to acknowledge that CU does not have a coach who can win at that level.
