Yep, he kicks his leg way up into the air on a rebound and accidentally kicks someone

If ??? I think it's past "if". His HS coach suspended him 2 games his Sr. year for "disciplinary reasons". His prep school coached benched him and then yanked his scholarship at semester break. He pretty much got kicked out of the prep school where WSU had arranged for him to get a scholarship.

He went to prep school because he had to get his gpa, and test scores up to meet NCAA requirements. He didn't finish prep school, which probably mens he didn't get his HS gpa up to the point where he can pass the clearinghouse. Courses he takes at IlSU will not affect his HS gpa, so he's going to have to SERIOUSLY raise his test scores to offset his academic record in HS.

He's taken the tests 6 or 7 times, so he should be getting better at it. I think he's absolutely wasting his money enrolling at IlSU. If he ever hopes to play D1 ball, he needs to find a JuCo NOW who wants to take a risk on a known flaky character.

The first clue about Hawkins was when his best buddy, and the guy he wanted to play with in D1 (Andrew Yates) committed to Creighton, a school that Yates probably knew Hawkins could never be admitted to. His "best buddy" picked a school where Hawkins could not possibly follow him.

That was his "best buddy" and Hawkins is outstanding at making enemies.

Wow, Kind of makes you scratch our head and wonder why WSU put so much time in this kid recruiting him and then placing him at a prep school.

I think that we thought the same as Creighton did with P' Stinnett for 2 years, (because he was so talented). In spite of his high school history, our staff thought that we could turn him around if placed in our system, and given some discipline. You currently have more historical data on him (high school problems, prep school problems, etc.) than we did. We'll see.

Obviously, you need a timeline.

July, 2011 - WSU recruiting Teddy hard, and enters Hawkins top 5.
September, 2011 - Hawkins updates his FB Education status to "Creighton" and puts Creighton logos all over it.
October, 2011 - Hawkins verbals to WSU
November, 2011 - Hawkins signs LOI
January, 2012 - Hawkins' HS coach suspends him 2 games for disciplinary reasons
July, 2013 - Hawkins claims he's doing everything the WSU coaching staff said he had to do to qualify, but it's discovered he hasn't graduated from HS yet.
August, 2013 WSU arranges for him to go to a prep school
August, 2013 Hawkins reaffirms his commitment to WSU and says he will definitely sign an LOI in November

OK, so far there are a few red flags, but break out the popcorn, the plot's about to thicken.

This all happened over a period of about 4 days in October, 2013. In the order listed.

Hawkins announced he was taking an unofficial visit to Ohio State
Marshall got a commit for the scholarship that would have gone to Hawkins from Shaq Morris, the #1 player in Oklahoma.
Hawkins said he was no longer considering WSU

November, 2013 - Hawkins announces a list of 5 schools he wants to visit, mostly BCS types, but Tulsa is on the list. IlSU is not on the list.
November, 2013 - None of the schools Teddy wants to visit will give him the time of day.
November, 2013 - Hawkins is expected to be the star at his prep school, and is getting lots of minutes
December, 2013 - Hawkins not getting so many minutes any more
December, 2013 - Hawkins is dismissed from his prep school

Most of the evidence of just how flaky Hawkins is occurred after he signed his LOI to WSU and after WSU placed him in a prep school.

The fact that he wanted to go to Dayton (his home town), but they never offered and signed another player at his position very early in the signing period might have been a red flag.

IlSU was never even on Teddy's radar until none of the schools he wanted to go to would have him.

Here's the 24-page thread chronicling the history of Hawkins -

I can understand why Wu fans are a little miffed.
Deontae seems to be the talent once predicted.
Muller and Co. have a juco lined up just in case.

To be fair, most of that won't take place for a few more months ;)

I can't bring myself to get too worked up about any of this. He seems like a very talented but troubled kid. If he can get his troubles worked out and get eligible, IlSU is very lucky here. If not, they'll probably ditch him before he can do too much damage. Meanwhile we got some pretty good players instead of him, and obviously we're not hurting too much without him thus far.

Biggest Surprise: Illinois State doesn't make a NCAA appearance like the fan think they are going to.
