I don't think even the most gung-ho IlSU fans have ever said anything about an NCAA appearance.

We Shocker fans are the only ones that deserve to eat crow if we don't make an appearance.

I would think ISUb fans would have the same expectation if there were any of them. *rimshot*

Links?

If someone said we are going to the tourney, that person is in the minority. Our entire team is new with no D1 experience.

Redbirds in the NCAA Tourney? Not this year...I don't even have false hopes of competing for the NIT. Beating Bradley two or three times would be good enough for me.

Are you predicting the future now? :D

I really didn't need the timeline but thanks. Teddy sounds like he is one of those high risk/reward players. It also sounds like he was a high risk/reward player when WSU was recruiting him. I'm sure our coaching staff has more information than we do and assessed the risk. You know a lot more about this kid than I do but your bitterness towards the situation tells me that you think this kid can play. We'll see if he ever puts on the redbird uniform.

I think that we thought the same as Creighton did with P' Stinnett for 2 years, (because he was so talented). In spite of his high school history, our staff thought that we could turn him around if placed in our system, and given some discipline. You currently have more historical data on him (high school problems, prep school problems, etc.) than we did. We'll see.

I have no reason to doubt our coaching staff and I don't mind taking a risk with a talented player. Could blow up on us or it could pay off. If it takes two years for him to play for us like I keep reading, we'll have even more history on the guy. Like you said, we'll see...

I'm not bitter about this at all. My actual opinion is more long the lines of Hawkins being an a-1 prima donna and a jerk.

Muller IS NOT taking a risk with Hawkins. As long as Hawkins is paying his own way, Muller is risking nothing, and has nothing invested. The exposure to risk happens only if Hawkins can become eligible, and that's a huge question mark.

I think Hawkins is exempted from the Valley rules about transfers. The following is one of the exemptions from the 2-year rule that the Valley has in their bylaws.

4.2.4.2 A student-athlete whose athletically related financial aid is eliminated at one (1) institution and who wishes to attend another Conference member institution and receive athletically
related financial aid.

WSU used the financial aid that would have gone to Hawkins first on C.J. Lufile when Hawkins didn't qualify. When Hawkins flaked out the second time around, WSU gave the financial aid Hawkins would have gotten to Shaq Morris.

To me, there can be no doubt that Hawkins financial aid was eliminated at WSU. That trumps the entire question about whether Hawkins "accepted or received" any financial aid. If he did, that aid was eliminated by WSU.

I don't think WSU or Marshall plays into this at all.

When Hawkins went to Quakerdale, he needed major improvement to his HS gpa and his test scores. He also needed some core classes. Except for the test scores, those are all NCAA rules about an athlete's HS academic work. I don't see how Hawkins can fix any of that by taking classes at IlSU.

It's impossible for Wichita State to be bitter about anything in basketball right now. Impossible.
