No one goes and points at Scheer's freshman year and says look how good he is, so why don't you look at Addo's most recent year? Inside game is still meh, and relying on a freshman PG is tough. Bears might squeak into the top half since the Valley is down. That will be a monumental success!

If you play that card Wufan, then you have to assess your team the same way. Your projected center collected rust all last year, and Wiggins and Lutfile really sucked because they both had lesser years than Addo. Wessel is suspect from injury , and if Early is a wing then you have no proven inside game, etc etc. But you have your opinion and we'll see how much squeaking we have to do. My only question is on the sidelines for us, and there you have a proven winner.

There are always questions prior to the start of a season. The one thing WSU has is that it is coming off of a good year.

It's not like you set the world on fire in the conference schedule, either. You were one game out of last place. You won one road game in conference. You were 2-8 against the top half of the conference, with both wins at home by a combined three points. 29 games into the season, you still lost by 36 on the road to Illinois State. Hell, SIU almost beat you by double digits near the end of the season. 23 games into the season, you still only scored 37 points against UNI. You averaged double digit losses on the road through the conference season -- not the non-conference (which is factoring in the 12 point win over Drake).

You seem to be implying that you became an entirely different team by the end of the season. You were better, but you were SO awful the first half of the season it would almost be impossible not to have improved. If you had shown some awesome improvement by the end of the year, I'd be a lot more positive towards all of this talent you're talking about -- but the drastic improvement wasn't there. I think many of you Bears fans are letting your off-season fantasies cloud your vision about the talent on this MSU team.

You weren't the 9th place team in the league because of your terrible start in the noncon.

Swapping out Downing for Gulley and adding a senior transfer doesn't inspire confidence in anyone about your ability to go from 9th to the top of the conference. And that has NOTHING to do with the noncon. I'm sure you'll be better, and a lot of teams will be worse -- but the Valley being worse is the best thing you have going for you.

With the loss of the whole back court, is Evansville not a dark horse in the Valley this season. A dark horse usually has a chance to win but there are several unknown. We re filling the back court with freshman. obviously a big hole if your filling it with freshmen, according to the top freshman thread. One guard returns after Nelson went the DII route,DJ Ballentine. 5 freshman guards to fill out the lineup.

I will give Shocker fans credit for consistency in their vision, in that clearly only their players improve in the offseason, only their unproven newcomers are sure bets to contribute, and only their losses from last year are not to be held as significant this year, while the loss of Downing is evidently a program breaker. I don't discount any of the points you make, you can make cases for any team including the Shockers for why a team will or won't meet their fans expectations. I just find it funny in a thread that focuses on "Dark Horses" you have to counter a fairly soft representation of the Bears chances to even be a top 5 team. But hey, you have your view ; we'll see how the year pans out .

The Aces are my dark horse choice. A lot of attention given to MSU and BU as improved teams that will finish well. I like Eville as the 4th place finisher this year.

Simmons has built a program on defense and a structured approach to the offensive end. He has some size albeit young, and a really good guard in Ballentine. They don't beat themselves , so you have to take the game from them to win.

I'll have to admit, I'm a bit skeptical on the many views that The Aces will finish in the upper half of The Valley. Just think losing those 3 key players will be a tough go for UE. Who knows though, with so many question marks on the predicted lower half teams, it's just really difficult to predict how MVC hoops will play out for most of the teams. We could all be way off on predicting more than a couple teams.

Do think there's been some good talent brought in by all The MVC programs, so that bodes well for out-of-conference play. It may just take a bit of time for some of the new talent to gel, but overall I think The Valley will once again be pretty darn competitive....COOL 8-)

ROCK IT MVC!!
