Utah State went through an almost identical situation with Danny Berger. Today Danny has his ICD installed and he is ready to take the court this year for the Aggies. DJ is only limited by DJ now.

An article in USA Today makes it sound like there is a good possibility he'll play again.

Wichita State has apparently chosen to not clear Bowles, so he'll likely never play at WSU.

They have chosen to honor his scholarship for four years, though, and they'll be seeking an NCAA exemption from it counting against the 13 allowed starting next year. (Which should be automatic.)

WSU= Class
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

Thanks for the compliment. I believe any athletic department would do the same under similar circumstances. SIU had a player with career-ending knee surgery and they're giving him all 4 years of his schollie.

The bad part of this situation is - if Bowles ever gets a medical clearance to play in the future, he can't play at WSU. The "career-ending" clause that allows an injured player to keep his scholarship denies that player the ability to ever play for that school, regardless of any changes in his health status.

Great that he keeps his scholarship. But wow what a blow to this kid. I was forced to give up pick up/rec league basketball a while back. That was really hard. It must be infinitely harder for a D1 athlete to have to give up his sport. Wish him the best in his transition period and hope he takes advantage of the educational opportunity.
