I was looking for more of a traditional style university, not a glorified community college. 25+ campuses/centers? Wow.

Does the University of Chicago play anything in D1?

Definitely agreed.

The only part that makes me more negative to IlSU than other schools at the moment are the accounts of IlSU fans throwing objects at WSU players last season.

Beyond that, who you argue with on here, or who you have a bad interaction with in person, is just a roll of the dice. Meet a great fan from another team or a terrible fan and your opinion of thousands of people will be largely based on that one person.

The notion of things being thrown at WSU players last year has been disputed over and over again. I'm not going to say nothing was thrown or that a lot of things were thrown as I truly don't know the facts and I was there. I will say this, I was at the end of the court where WSU went into the tunnel when the game was over and I did not see any coins tossed so I will dispute that part of the allegation. When Carl Hall raised his arms and mocked the crowd just before going into the tunnel many were angered but I chuckled and smiled. We all were in our early 20's once so I didn't see it as a big deal. As the Germans would say, machts nicht.

I don't despise or have any disrespect for WSU as an institution. Like many I don't care much for Marshall but I don't disrespect him. He is a hard nosed competitor who has a prickly personality but he is a winner so I can see why the WSU faithful support him. Not that it matters since it didn't influence the outcome of the games but I watched every game and rooted for WSU not only this past season in the NCAA but a couple years ago when you folks won the NIT. WSU has a lot going for it right now and the fans and supporters should be happy with what is happening with your basketball program. The only problem I have with anything associated with WSU is the attitude of a couple WSU posters who frequent this forum to taunt and insult other fan bases. I agree, SHOXROX is an internet bully but I don't judge the entire fanbase by him or his brethen kin.

Yeah, I'm just a mean internet bully because clearly everybody that I "bully" around doesn't deserve a peep for what they spew.

Some of you are just mind-numbing. My opinions and views are direct reactions from somebody else's thoughts or views. But as they say, it's the second one that always gets caught.

The truth really hurts some of the soft girly-skinned people around here.

The truth that you are a bully hurts you too, but I digress. I like Illinois State University. So much so that after concluding my undergraduate studies in May, I decided to continue for two more years at ISU as a graduate student and earn a master's degree in May 2015. That's what really matters. rlh04d, shoxrox and the Redbird fans should hug and kiss, hold hands, get in a circle around the campfire and sing Kumbaya because I think that would really help matters.

Gonna happen with almost any winning program. I bet Florida Gulf Coast has some annoying fans right now, and they have about 300 fans ;)

I hope the stories about IlSt fans throwing stuff is wrong. There were probably two or three drunk idiots, but you know how two or three people can affect the perception of far more ...

I agree with you 100%! :+1:

As I wrote, I don't view the entire WSU fan base this way.

Have a great day!

Article in the Wichita newspaper today had a sidebar concerning the Hawkins issue. Evidently, Gregg gave him his release last March and had no input into this issue. All of the pissing and moaning on here regarding his input into this issue was seriously misguided.

http://www.kansas.com/2013/09/28/3026965...tball.html

Quote:Hawkins, a 6-foot-8 forward from Dayton, Ohio, was not cleared by the NCAA for academic eligibility and did not attend WSU. He will pay his own way at Illinois State and is not eligible this season as a non-qualifier. He cannot practice with the team. Should he earn his eligibility, he will have four seasons of eligibility starting in 2014-15.

WSU and coach Gregg Marshall had no input into the issue once it reached the MVC’s eligibility committee. WSU released Hawkins from his letter of intent in March. Marshall declined to say much about the MVC’s ruling.

“It doesn’t matter whether I’m pleased or not,” Marshall said.

Eight other MVC coaches likely possess mixed emotions about the ruling. In 2014-15, they must face an Illinois State team with Hawkins, while WSU will not.

Won't he have to sit out 2014-15 and really only have 3 years of eligibility starting in 2015-16 since he has to sit out a year?
