I don't understand that comment; even if every single bracket buster game and every single MWC Challenge game ended up being against a top 75 or better team, that would be 20 games in any given year. But of course probably less than 1/2 or those games are , maybe worse. Creighton was 18 games yearly. I know there is a great need by some to discredit CU, but in the zeal to do so, some of the assertions are really off base.

I feel like when I first started coming by this board and Shockernet, people actually respected your opinion.

Man, you sure took care of that.

Your ad hominem attack didn't exactly refute his point that Creighton's rented NBA caliber arena draws recruits and national TV.

Speaking of that arena, everyone is cordially invited to drop by the free webcast at http://www.gocreighton.com next Wednesday at 5:30 CT to see the unveiling of the new scoreboard, video boards, court, and athletics logo.

Neat. You're also invited to watch our game against WKU on ESPN, we'll be unveiling our new Final Four banner. It might be a cool opportunity for you, since you guys don't appear to have one yourselves.

rlh04d wrote:But if you want an actual refutation of his point: Wichita and Omaha both have large arenas the teams can play basketball at. Of the two, only Wichita's has actually hosted NBA games, so "NBA caliber" is a pretty empty boast when you've never hosted an NBA team. Of the two, only the Intrust Bank Arena can actually be called "NBA caliber." Because the NBA has deemed it so. To be precise, Intrust would be "NBA caliber," while CenturyLink would be "NBA D-League caliber." Search "CenturyLink" and "NBA" together and the only results you'll find are NBA D-League showcases and Creighton fans claiming it's NBA caliber. Seems like you're trying to convince yourselves of something.

I want to thank my Shocker friend rlh04d for another opportunity to correct shocking fallacies with facts. You might be surprised to learn that the very first game ever held at CenturyLinkwas not a Creighton game, but an NBA exhibition between the Timberwolves and Hawks. Just as much of an NBA game as the Thunder exhibitions at Intrust.

Besides the fact it's hosted the NBA, Creighton fans claim an NBA caliber arena based on this quote from Steward Mandel in Sports Illustrated, 2/20/2006: “Creighton is the league’s crown jewel. It boasts an NBA-caliber arena, the CenturyLink Center Omaha, where the Bluejays average 14,387 fans.”

rlh04d wrote:Recruiting between Wichita State and Creighton would also refute your point about it drawing recruits. WSU has consistently brought in equivalent or higher rated recruits in recent years, with lowly Koch Arena.

Don't know about recent years, but this year WSU has commits from 2 Rivals 3-stars, while CU has 1 Rivals 3-star and a 4-star. Seems fairly even. I seem to have a higher opinion of Koch than you... wouldn't call it "lowly." It provides quite the home-court advantage. Has terrible sight lines on TV, though.

rlh04d wrote:WSU has plenty of games being carried by TV this season, more than Creighton had last season.

ESPN3 isn't TV. It's a webcast. Fox 1 is TV.

rlh04d wrote:Renting off campus does allow you to sell beer, so I guess that's a point for you. Of course, you also have to schedule your games around rodeos, so that's a negative. And of course you lose out on a lot of revenue.

The rodeo's always in September. We did get booted for the US Figure Skating Championships last January, though. Caused a 3-game road trip. We do lose revenue on rent, but more than make it up on the new TV contract.
"When you lose a program like Creighton, there's no sugarcoating it," Elgin said. "It's a devastating loss. They're going to go on and have success in the league they've joined..." Jeff Eisenberg, Yahoo Sports, October 10, 2013.

I've been to pre-season NBA games at Roberts Stadium in Evansville and Purcell Pavilion at Notre Dame. I wouldn't call either "NBA caliber.

This. 100% agree.

From what I have read Pinnacle Bank Arena is on par with the Clink or whatever they call it. The Blue Jays home is no longer even inarguably the best arena in the state of Nebraska. But yeah their fans are substandard. Wine and cheese crowd if I ever saw one. Nobody in the Valley has a student group that is anywhere near as tragic as the Blue Crew either.

Me thinks that once Tim Miles has NU hoops firing on all cylinders at their new arena, most of the CU fanbase will dry up. They are notorious frontrunners anyhow. And battling Seton Hall for 7th place in the Big East in a couple years won't turn the dial in Omaha.

Pretty ridiculous to insult Creighton fans when you consider this:

4038 tickets!!

The Valley announced Monday that its Feb. 1 sales report indicates that Creighton fans have purchased a record 4,038 all-session tickets for the tournament. That’s almost 1,000 more than the other nine schools have combined to sell.

Clearly you weren't there and neither were any other Bears fans. Creighton was by far the largest and loudest fan base at Arch Madness. Creighton has owned STL for years and if you don't think Elgin and the MVC won't miss them you are crazy.
