Aces open with Martin Methodist

Martin Methodist. You probably never heard of Martin Methodist. Well, neither had I, but this team is no joke. Rated #22 in NAIA, and took D-1 Jacksonville State to the wire before losing by 2. They are led by seniors, and will be playing a team with no seniors, and I am partial to seniors, on Sat. night at the Ford Center. What a blow it would be to all concerned for the Aces to lose this game. It will be a real test for the freshmen, and sophs, for the young Aces. It won't be a pushover game for the Aces.

Shocks just recently beat the #2 NAIA team 73-29. Aces should be fine. Either way on the upside even if you lose it will have no effect on the league RPI.
Thoughts and prayers to WSU finding a new conference.

Martin Methodist was Jacksonville State's (BU's first opponent) last exhibition opponent as you say and took them to the wire.

However, it looks like production for the Gamecocks came from their non-star players.

It sounds like excuses are already being made for an NAIA opponent in a game that hasn't even been played yet.

You could say that. I could say that you think that just because Martin Methodist is an NAIA team that any MVC team should beat them by 40 points. This year the Aces will go as far as the freshmen can take them. Who knows how far that will be since we have not seen them play one second of the season. Even talented freshmen have bad games.

I don't know about 40 points, but any MVC team should expect to beat them handily. If not, their fans shouldn't spend the entire off-season every year proclaiming their relevance and the potential of the program.

Nothing wrong with proclaiming relevance or potential either one, as long as you don't claim that a bunch freshmen, and sophs., are going to the final four. The Aces do have a bunch of potential but it might take a season, for it to come together. I don't expect a flawless performance tomorrow night, and anyone who does is a fool.

You might also expect a MVC team to beat a D-2 team by more than 8 points, but that didn't happen against Illinois-Springfield. The results of the Indiana, IUPUI, Ohio U, Murray State, and Xavier games, all on the road, will tell me what I need to know about this team.

Players are players and there are some NAIA teams that can put 7-8 players in a rotation, shoot the lights out and beat some D1 teams. Will it happen 7 out of 10 times, of course not.
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.
