More conference realignment sparked by Oral Bob?

Oral Roberts will rejoin the Summit League in 2015, where they will be the ninth member. They had been in the Southland for the last two years, prior to that they were members of the Summit.

I'm surprised by this move. Seems like the Southland was at least a little better fit geographically, and not much of a change competitively.

They should be in the valley, I can't think of many schools that would be a better fit. They are better than a few teams already in the league.

I have to double check the timing, but Oral Bob joined the Southland right around the time they lost Texas St, UTSA, and UT-A to realignment. That really weakened the conference. Then they added New Orleans and 2 transitionals to replace them (Abilene Christian, Incarnate Word).

The conference strength went from "bad" to "bottom-5 bad". Oral Bob didn't sign up for THAT Southland.

Yeah, at time Oral Bob went to the Southland, they had 9 teams in conference. Now they have 14. And every other addition since either brings football with it or is planning to start it.

They head back to a weakened Summit though as Oakland left for the Horizon when Butler left for the Big East.

The Summit did get Denver to replace them.

Or, they got Denver to replace UMKC.

Besides, the Summit has those powerhouse Dakota programs that we were reminded about here months ago :dance:

It is ridiculous. I tried to keep up for a while and then I decided I just don't care. A team comes to town, I get in my car and go watch the game. It doesn't matter to me what conference they are temporarily in.

Some have said they find all this realignment fascinating but I just find it tiresome. And I think it all detracts from the game itself.

I do agree with Ag though in that I wish we had offered Oral Bob into the Valley. They are pretty decent as a basketball program.

If the Valley added someone U of Nebraska Omaha has a competitive team.
