Wonder if the purple teenager can solve the riddle of who is missing from this list.
Don't go back to 1949---false numbers and impressions.. I think only WSU, Bradley and Drake were in the MVC in those early day. Those eventual power house D1 BB schools (Cincy, Louisville, Memphis, Houston, etc.) started leaving the MVC in the mid 60s. Seven of the current member schools joined the MVC in 1975 or later. In the 50s, when the NIT was the top post season college BB tournament, WSU and Bradley were more nationally recognized team than now--Bradley is not that team now, same with WSU except for the last few years. Lots of quality 1950 BB teams are no longer in that category-or iare now in a lesser status: Oklahoma A&M (Okla State-now in Big 12 but not the national power earlier)), Lasalle (with Tom Gola--most of you radio heads probably do not know who tom Gola was/is), Dusequene, Detroit, LU is not the team it was in the 60s, etc. If you want to quote 50s numbesr why not two lists, pre 1974 and post 1975---a more accurate picture .
You are welcome to make up whatever list you want that floats your boat and some might enjoy it- I even provided the link. Frankly I think it is important to remember your history and where you came from and that should give Bradley or Loyola fans some hope.
But if you start at 2000 - WSU going to be #1, SIU #2, Drake #3, UNI #4 with nobody else doing anything. If you start at 75, then you will see #1 WSU, ISUB #2, SIU #3, Bradley #4, drake #5, ISUR #6, UNI #7, Loyola #8. Not all that interesting.
