There are many IlSU fans with whom I've shared pleasant exchanges and observations over many years. Those are some of my favorite non-WSU fans in the Valley. I don't see them posting much any more.

The most prolific current IlSU posters amuse me. I'm delighted that IlSU fans hate Marshall. that says a lot that can't be said any other way. Everybody (except MSU fans) loves Barry Hinson. I've got no problem with Porter Moser, but I bet some IlSU fans hate him too.

Marshall doesn't like to blow opponents out. He tends to pull off the horses or start using a lot of clock to keep scores decent. There was a thought that Marshall would keep the pedal to the medal against the Birds, but he didn't. Players from the end of the bench were seeing action as early as 16 minutes left in the game. Much of the second half was played with 3 or 4 of the second unit and 1 or 2 of the first unit on the court.

Of course, trying to keep the score respectable only made some IlSU fans hate Marshall because he was trying to show them up by putting the scrubs in that early. If Marshall leaves the starters in, the Shox likely win by 30+, which would have upset some IlSU fans for running the score up.

Now do you see why some IlSU fans amuse me? Marshall could buy TV time, invite Muller to join him, spend half an hour explaining how everything over the last few years was Marshall's fault, apologize for every bad thing that's ever happened at IlSU, and give Muller $250,000 to help with his recruiting. IlSU fans would hate on Marshall for trying to take the high road and trying to sway public opinion when Muller clearly would have had that position if Marshall hadn't so rudely taken it from him.

I think that the hostility actually started at Arch Madness 2012. There were several cheap shots by Wilkins.

To say that 3G was anything but a good sport during the game, handshake, and post game is just sour grapes IMO. :Bam:

My post about Marshall blowing by was a result of a wsu poster earlier saying that muller blew by. Regardless, you have a great team and as a basketball coach, Marshall is tops. I just think some of his off the court drama perpetuates some of the hate I see out there, especially on this thread from wsu fans towards isu fans. I will admit there is a lot of behind the scenes that we don't know about so both sides can be to blame. I just think it's unnecessary by both parties. Good luck the rest of the year. I apologize if what I wrote came across the wrong way.

But, Wilkins, normally raised his knee while defending. That's just the way he played - it was completely normal for him and just the way he played.

It was unfortunate that Stutz had his crotch in the way of how Wilkins normally defended. Stutz should have known that and kept his genital region out of the area where Wilkins normally raised his knee. Then Stutz wouldn't have had to fall on the floor and take some bench time to recover.

It's Marshall's fault. He should have scouted Wilkins better and instructed Stutz to always leave at least 3' between himself and Wilkins when WSU had the ball.

And continued by storming his way into the post game presser that was set up for ISU (as the winning team always goes first), put Jank and ISU players media name cards down, and pouted and cried about the officiating the entire time... THAT is what started ALL of the ISU (and many neutral observers as well) hostility towards Marshall. After that, every plea, cry, pout to the officials during a game is magnified is many peoples eyes... and don't even get me started on how his wife acts during a game...

Well at least we agree on what started the hate.

You started it!

See, this amuses me. IlSU fans want to hate on WSUso much, they even hate on the coach's wife. Let me get the names and breeds of Marshall's dogs. that will give you even more reasons to hate.

Lynn Marshall is a former college basketball player. She's the "mother" of the players when they're at WSU (away from home). She treats the players as if they are a part of her family, and she will support and stand behind them as if they were her own children.

But, that's bad.

Until IlSU can put a team together that can compete with the Shox on a regular and ongoing basis, keep hating - cause that's all you got.

This. ISU wanted to break out so to speak in the 2012 Arch Madness and they resorted to a lot of dirty play, including a number of cheap shots on Stutz, without question the nicest guy on the court.

It was pretty obvious they couldn't beat WSU straight up, so they went dirty and it worked. The vast majority of whatever ails this "rivalry" needs to be worn by ISU.

And don't even get him started on how Marshall's kids ran on the court after the Gonzaga game! Such a classless family, wanting to celebrate the win.

So you admit that Wilkins started it all?

Wilkins getting under Stutz's skin was Illinois State's only way to try to make a game with WSU close and it worked. Congrats to Illinois State's only win against WSU in the last 11 games.
