OK, I understand the impulse to make more money, but how do you know how things shake out before the beginning of the season? We know now that WSU is 22-0, and likely to bring thousands more to the tournament than any other team, but what if WSU had lost three or four games, and ISUb was undefeated? I think very few WSU fans would have predicted an undefeated season this far in. At the beginning of the season it was just as plausible that ISUb would be 18-3 at this point as WSU being 22-0. Should the league wait until January to take a look at the standings and decide the location of the conference tournament based on who's likely to bring more fans?

Well the track record is WSU and CU have been bringing the most fans for almost the last decade. If you actually go to the tournament, you will find that WSU black and yellow will rule the streets of STL.

No doubt. And I have been to the tournament in 2009, 2011, and 2012.

If the records were switched ISUb probably sells 100 more tickets and WSU sells 100 less. I'm probably overestimating ISUb's increase.

I bet that if you tracked it back to the 90's, WSU brought more fans when they had no chance than pretty much any team that had a decent chance of winning.

It's a good thing we have historical numbers to base this issue on rather than just one year in a vaccuum, isn't it?

It's hardly like WSU is only bringing the majority of fans because the team is 22-0. WSU has averaged a sell out for over a decade ... those fans are going to travel whether we go undefeated in conference or lose six games. As we did last year.

And the other teams won't travel. Just like last year. And for a while.

KC has to want it to get it. IIRC, KC submitted a bid a couple of years ago and it came in significantly below STL's bid. Unless KC is willing to improve their bid, extra tickets sold might not make up the difference.

For the record, I would love for it to be in KC. I might actually be able to attend.

How was attendance for those teams in those years?

SIU always had 2-3k
The others usually had a grand or 2

Never had many UNI, CU, DU, WSU. Maybe a grand total. The Trees usually had more than any of those. St Louis and the Valley were very happy with the turnout. Expectations have been raised but the talk of going to campus sites is silly. THE WOMEN have neutral site tourneys.

I was thinking home attendance, actually.

I just can't see many of the teams in the Valley ever sending many people to St. Louis when they struggle to get people to attend home games. When WSU's St. Louis attendance was low, I'd assume it was during the 90's when WSU's home attendance was also low. Considering WSU's worst season for attendance in the 90's would still be upper half of the Valley this year, I don't see much promise for teams averaging 5k fans to send many to the tourney.
