ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3

I know this is going to sound petty. But have the Shockers played a game on ESPN on a Monday night? If so, I apologize for not knowing and we need to delete this thread. If not, is it too late. If not, does our conference affiliation hurt our ability to get on the biggest ESPN stage?

WSU hasn't played a game on ESPN at all this season. The Western Kentucky Tip-Off game is the only time they've played on any ESPN channel on a Monday night.

The MoSt game will probably be WSU's first ESPN game, and only if they're undefeated.

ESPN has contracts with the ACC and Big 12 for weekly Monday games. (it was Big East instead of ACC before this year). Those show up on ESPN, and occasionally extra games also show up on ESPN2/ESPNU.

The MEAC and SWAC traditionally play on Mondays as well, and ESPNU will occasionally pick up a couple of those games to satisfy contracts with those leagues.

tl;dr - there's really no room on Mondays if you're thinking we could force better exposure

Why do the MEAC and SWAC have ESPN contracts?

Do we seriously have basically the same TV deal as them!?

Oh, not even close, but they get a few games a year along with their conference tournament finals. For example, the last 2 Mondays before yesterday, there was a MEAC/SWAC doubleheader on the U....MEAC had a couple other Mondays and so does the SWAC. I'm pieceing the info together week by week so I don't have the full sked.

So actually, they have a better deal in that they have a weekly spot and the MVC doesn't.

Double post but I'm too lazy to edit:

They have 4 U games a year and that's it. So I was off by a little bit. But they basically get semi-regular coverage during conference season.

I can't see how anyone cares about games from those conferences.

If we want to play some games on Monday and/or Friday nights (when most other top-half conferences don't play) we can get more games on the prime networks, too.

I doubt MVC coaches would be happy with only one day between two conference games.

Exactly- just like the MAC and other non-BCS conferences football games being played during the week on ESPN/ESPN2...

Many leagues have contracts with ESPN for Championship Week, most of the leagues are given a bone or two in their contract for the regular season. Since ESPN has lost some tournaments (A10, CAA) they don't mind the filler.
