Keith Olbermann calls the mascot todays version "The Worst Person in the World" demanding that Bradley gets its money back from the company hired to come up with the design and costume for KABOOM. Confirmed my suspicion that it will be scaring children.

You just can't buy this type of publicity.

Here's the link to the video on youtube.

Don't forget Steve Merfeld either, who left his assistant's job under Les mid-season.

Does anyone from bu have any background on why both, Buescher and Merfeld, jumped ship? Both seemed to be quality coaches. I believe Buescher left in the off season, but Merfeld leaving mid-season felt odd.

Buescher was pretty old, so he probably just wanted to retire. His son was also on the staff so probably wanted to give him a chance to step up. One of Les's faults was he wanted "Yes" men as assistants after Buescher left, which led to his downfall as he needed the coaching help. I don't know how much "fact" the above is, but it's my view of what happened.

Also, back to our awesome new mascot, KABOOM!, I'm loving all the free publicity we are getting with it. The more the national media hates on the mascot, the more I like it. It's unique, different, and something that only Bradley people get. Now if he can only get us a win tonight, think of how much publicity that will bring. I think there will be a packed house at Carver tonight.

Les was so utterly incompetent, he hired Merfeld who everyone on earth presumed would be the Associate Head Coach, but instead after hiring Merfeld announced Buescher's son Eric, a repeatedly failed HS coach would be the Associate Head Coach. :?

God I'm glad those days are OVAH.

Hell, I rooted for bu and I rooted for SIU, UNI, WSU, CU and every other Valley team in recent tourney action. Too bad 2006 had to come with the NCAA investigation and subsequent sanction. You also forgot to mention how many times bu has had the NCAA come calling on the hilltop. You lead us in that category, too.

Les was and still is a horrible coach. Chuck Buescher propped him up and was a pretty decent Xs and Os guy until even he couldn't deal with lil jimmy.

I would think the thing that stings is the fact that bu was picked to finish in the upper half of the Valley...and won't. Would finally crawl out of the Thursday night play-in game...and won't. And next year without Lemon, bu looks like a shoo-in for another battle for the basement. Well, you always have Ka-Boom.

We won't ever know how clean ISU is because the NCAA tends not to investigate irrelevant programs. :P

I agree on Buescher propping up Les, but I'm pretty sure there was no falling out. There was with Merfeld, but Chuck (an IHSA legend) only came out of retirement to help a friend and his son get on their feet. He left after the S16 and a solid NIT year with the program on good footing, but it was just downhill from there.

Personally I don't care much whether we finish 7th or 6th, although at least 6th makes the MVCT interesting. But either way, this season has been unacceptable barring a miracle MVCT run. I expect to at least challenge for NCAA bids, and I expect to see that next year. I don't care if we're beating ISU or finishing out of Thursday. Les finished in the 4-5 game so often we'd call it the Jim Les Invitational, but that gets tiresome.

As for next year, I wouldn't count your chickens yet. Lemon has been wildly inconsistent for us and our placing the ball in his hands has cost us plenty of games. We're replacing him with what looks like a JUCO all American, and we're bringing in a top 100 recruit out of HS in Mike Shaw to replace Pickett whose season has been a disappointment. Prosser is the other loss and just give me a middle of the road JUCO spring signing and that'll be an improvement. We're also still in on a top 100 recruit in Cunningham. I haven't given up on the Geno Ford era just yet. We'll know more after the coming spring signing period.

Geno's first "good" team was always going to be the year after Lemon's graduation. Obviously, given the fact that some players haven't produced, next year will be a big crap shoot just like this year.

However, assuming:

XZ (improved) + Barnes (improved) + Grier (returning to plus shooting form) + Shaw + incoming players

should very easily trump the losses of Lemon, Prosser and Pickett and any transfers out

Next season at least holds a lot of promise of addition by subtraction. And we need a PG solution.

Which is it? Is Lemon one of the best all time players at BU, or is a JUCO replacement an upgrade? Let me guess…both!
