Yes but Knight is way more important to ISU then Washpun.

That has nothing to do with it

Depends on what Newcomer of the Year means... the best player that is new to the league? Or the most valuable player to their team, that is new to the league?

If NOY and Player of the Year are treated with the same criteria, it is more of a "most valuable to your team" discussion then a best player in the league. If that was not the case, the POY wouldn't be on the regular season champions roster a great majority of the time...

I wouldn't treat NCOY with the same criteria I would use for POY. However, Knight is right there with Washpun IMO. Toss up.

It has nothing to do with importance to your team....

Though, you are a blind homer and doing everything you can to try to make up reasons to give an award to your guy.

So, does anyone actually know for sure whether Doyle is eligible for both? I agree that I'd like to see someone else win either NOY or FOY.

If he is eligible for both, Washpun and Knight are both empty handed.

Wouldn't shock me considering this is the Valley.

I don't think there is a coach in this conference that wouldn't admit they'd start Baker at the two, though, and only Indiana State that wouldn't start him at the one. Leaving him off would have nothing to do with naming the top 5 players in the conference, it would just be the usual "everyone gets a trophy!" mentality.

My mentality is more of he didn't have one of the 5 best seasons as an individual. No doubt he would start on most teams in the country. I disagree with your opinion on him at the 1 but it's a personal preference in I'd take a creator (FVV, Odum) over him and let him start at the 2. I think Gulley sneaks into first team but thit might be a homer pick.

My point on him at the 1 is that he's a better point guard than any team in the Valley other than Wichita State and Indiana State have. And I don't think it's close. Eight Valley teams would start him as the point guard today. Obviously I'd take FVV or Odum over him at the 1 in a second.

Would Baker start over Marcus Marshall at the 1 or the 2? I think he probably would but it would be fairly close IMO. Marshall is a very good 2 way player. He does a lot of things well as does Baker.

Not knocking Ron at all. I actually think he is WSU's best all around player.

Marshall and Baker are both gifted players. I like Baker over Marshall, but I am sure that several would prefer Marshall. I'd take both on my team. I think Beane and Balentine can also be added into the discussion for best sophomore combo-guards in the Valley.
