He did at least according to Yahoo:

Marshall cites his hardscrabble background as one of the reasons he passed on interest from Nebraska last spring and NC State the previous year.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the ... ncaab.html

If he turned down NC State, there is no reason he'd consider Wake.

The list of programs I will be scared about if they want Marshall is pretty small: Kentucky, Syracuse, Louisville, UNC, Duke, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan State. Duke and UNC would easily be the biggest there, considering Marshall's Carolina background, but both of those schools are very likely to remain within the established coaching trees they've already committed to. Syracuse and Michigan State would likely be committed to their own trees as well. Kansas fans hate Marshall.

So really my list is Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana.

Had UCLA waited a few weeks, it could be a whole different story. I think Marshall makes $1.6 million at WSU, so to say he wouldn't consider Marquette is pretty foolish. Marquette was paying Buzz Williams was making $2.8 million a year and I would not be surprised if they offered Marshall more money. Turning down TWICE as much as you currently make, would be pretty rough to do.

I don't think you have ever uttered a sentence about Marshall or WSU that was even close to being right.

There was an article a month or two ago that mentioned Marshall was very interested in NC State and NC State tried to get him on the cheap since he was interested. Marshall took that as an insult and told them to screw off.

I don't think SC ever offered Marshall the job. They called Marshall and he told them to screw off because they had their chance to offer him years prior. With NC State, they offered him, but they didn't "want him enough." I'm assuming that refers to money. I think there's another article that mentions them trying to get him at a discount, but I couldn't find that one.

First, I can't understand Williams' decision to leave Marquette for VA Tech. Marquette's men's basketball budget is $9.9 million (8th highest in the country as of 2013), and you have to figure they're paying Williams pretty well. VA Tech's men's basketball budget is $5.5 million (55th in the country as of 2013). And on top of that, you have the fact that football is king at VT.... plus who wants to live in freakin' Blacksburg, Virginia?

Something has to be disagreeable at Marquette for Crean and Williams to leave for high pressure/uncertain positions when they've got a pretty cushy gig. The Twitter buzz is all about Ben Howland (ex-UCLA, Pitt) or Brian Wardle from UWGB filling the spot at Marquette.

Aww you're right ... I remember reading that article.

I thought you were referring to the interview Marshall did with Kent Babb. I don't think I ever read the full interview, just the tweets Babb put out about it:

Kent Babb wrote:He also told me SC offered less money than Nebraska. SC wanted a discount coach bc he wanted job. Now who's the cocky jerk? You, Gamecocks.

I forgot that Nebraska wanted him as well.

I definitely agree with this.

Doesn't add up. VT might be in a better conference, but in every way Marquette is the better job. That's a step down, and weird that Williams would willingly choose to move downward a year removed from the Elite 8.

Probably not for Marquette, but if I was an AD looking to make a new coaching hire, I'd being looking hard at Harvard's Amaker.
