The replacement of CU with LUC is of course part of it, but it is not the whole reason, because WSU fans did step up in big way to offset them. But the real truth is the schools with some of the bigger fan bases that are close that could have made up the difference, didn't show up.

Grade A:
WSU - 8,000 fans at a minimum for the final game

Grade B:
ISUB - They seemed to step it up a little this year and were the 2nd best crowd

Grade c:
UNI - looked about the same. The ones that did come seemed to stay the whole time

Grade D:
ISUR - their support rivaled WSU last year, took a step back this year

BU - support has really dropped off by 1/2

LUC - small group but better than expected for play-in team.

Grade f:
SIU - worst than I had seen it, and they have the short drive

MOST - Their group was not very big (not the smallest), but like SIU they should be bringing a whole much more. It is clear their fan bases is not engaged. They have the capability of bringing just as many as WSU, but they don't care.

EU, Drake - token fan groups

SIU and Bradley will support a winner in St. Louis, similar to WSU who did not represent well throughout the 90s. MSU probably would too, but they seem like a hard group to please. Going 20-10 just isn't good enough to get large crowds to support (Barry Hinson understands this). MSU needs some tourney magic to get the crowds back, but more than any other fan base in the Valley, I think the Bear masses are fickle.

Comparing 2014 to 2012 attendance was down -18% overall

Thursday: -29%
Friday 1: -29%
Friday 2: -20%
Sat: -14%
Sun: -2%

So it is really clear that while some would like to shed responsibility and take the easy way out and say it all about CU, but the fact is the Illinois schools didn't support the tournament.

It would be interesting if the MVC would make a move to KC to see what happens and send a message to the Illinois schools.

Thanks for looking that up!

St. Louis isn't getting stale.
The squads near St. Louis are getting stale.

Maybe if there was a chance that more than one team could win it, attendance would pick up.

Attendance has stunk outside of WSU and Creighton for a while.

We can make whatever excuses we want, but it's pretty obviously an extension of the poor home attendance of most Valley teams. Home attendance is down, Arch attendance is down.

Need to build the competitive level of the conference. One plus nine is not a good mix. Need add a couple of teams, plus maybe tell a couple goodbye. Add NDSU plus one, NDSU especially if the tourney goes to KC.

Possibly a couple of teams need to go--to another conference? You pick

Not a lot of quality BB only schools from the MO-KS border (KC) west to the Rockies. Maybe Denver, Oral Roberts. May have to look east and south east: towards ???? Need to keep the footprint as tight as possible

Mileage from/to Kansas City:
Fargo (NMDSU:) 613 miles Straight shot on I-29
Cedar Fall (UNI): 320 miles
Des Moines (Drake): 195 miles. Straight shot on I-35
Springfield (MSU): 170 miles
Wichita (WSU) 200 miles. Straight shot on I-35
Possibly NMSU---but they are a football school.
Possibly U. Nebraska Omaha: BB quality ???
SDSU ???

If Marshall, or especially WSU bail, makes no difference who you add or who leaves.

Since KC is too much of a coward to address me in public and risk getting banned, here's a quick rundown on the cute PM love notes he passes to me:

I'm starting to get worried about his blood pressure.

Aren't you over 60? Good God.
