Television Rights

What is the status of the basketball television right? I would love too see NBCSN to increase their inventory of college hoops with adding the MVC men's games and Arch Madness. They would not JIP the Championship or cut a large part of the country if it goes OT. NBC could air the championship but they are locked in with NHL/golf. But maximum exposure. Throw in a few football games as well. That or hope ESPN can can won back the rights.

ESPN has the rights and leases out the championship game to CBS. It's probably as good as we can hope for although if we could get with Fox Sports 1 for some national games and Fox Sports Midwest for weekly games, that would be great too.

Id imagine the MVC TV deal is going to be garbage next time. This past year the contract was only worth 137k split 11 ways. I can't imagine Loyola replacing Creighton is going to help that.

Last I heard the MVC TV deal doesn't pay out anything to anyone after production expenses.

Wichita State is a far bigger TV draw than even WSU and Creighton were combined last time the TV deal was up, at least. But WSU blowing through MVC teams that can't challenge them isn't good for TV. Teams have to step up.

WSU was a draw this season at the end, can't imagine WSU will run the table again and ESPN isn't going to pay based on that. As far as I can tell you may be correct on the amount paid to schools. I just remember the mention of that 137k in an article from the tribstar this year. That is prolly what ESPN pays the league, and the league likely has it's own responsibilities.

WSU certainly won't be the draw they were at the end of the year. And I doubt ESPN will pay much just for WSU's games on their own, when so many of the games they broadcast this year were blowouts.

But even when Creighton and WSU were both good, neither were major TV draws. WSU is a bigger name after this season than Creighton/WSU combined in the last few years. The loss of Creighton is more of a competitive balance loss than a major name brand loss, TV-wise, without McDermott there.
