[Re-read, slowly. You regurgitated my point, but still managed to miss it. The chances of Tennessee hiring Forbes is next to nothing. The chances of Tennessee hiring Marshall is below that.[/quote]

disagree with this statement, I believe most would, reason being Forbes won't even be offered.

If I had a choice 1. between living in Wichita, KA and Knoxville 2. SEC vs. MVC 3. National exposure the choice would be easy, I say it will be him or Miller.

@RealMikeWelch: Tim Miles, Shaka Smart, and Gregg Marshall all appear OUT of the Tennessee picture. This is what happens when u screw over a current coach.

Yup. Tennessee's administration should be grilled if they don't contact Marshall. But Tennessee is a significant step down from Wichita State at this point.

He'd basically be taking a smaller job with a worse team at a school that is paying a significantly lower salary than WSU is paying him for a slightly better conference and, primarily, three games a year against Kentucky and Florida.

Not gonna happen. If Calipari jumps to the NBA, I'll be a bit worried. Tennessee is a bad job, though, with a bad administration and a bad fanbase.

I'm all for calling Tennessee out for screwing over a current coach, but Tim Miles, Shaka Smart, and Gregg Marshall all:

A) Make more money than Tennessee has been paying.
2) Have better teams in the next few years than Tennessee will have.
D) And at least Smart and Marshall have turned down better jobs than Tennessee in the past.

Those three didn't necessarily turn down Tennessee because of anything that happened with the departing coach. Marshall and Smart were never going to consider Tennessee. Martin could have left that job singing the praises of Tennessee's brilliant administration and wonderful fanbase on the way to early retirement and they wouldn't have sniffed Tennessee. It's not a good basketball job.

From the coach's mouth. And most should know Marshall isn't one to use much coach speak or sugar coat anything. This is why Shocker fans aren't worried right now:

I realize it didn't say he would stay for a certain amount of time. But the situation he has makes it tough to leave for just anyone. I am telling you there is probably only 5-7 schools he would leave for right now. Tennessee and Missouri aren't among those schools IMHO

Mizzou will be calling as well now.

Done deal. Frank Haith, as expected, will be the next coach at Tulsa, a source told @CBSSports. Updated story coming.

Here's something I found on the Missouri message board. I can't verify it, but it did not come from a source with any ties to WSU.

Wake Forest inquired about Marshall and reportedly was told it would take a 7-year contract worth $25 mill for Marshall to take the phone call.

That's just a little higher than where I thought offers would have to be for Marshall to even consider a change. Marshall seems to be mentioned as the first call to make for every open coaching spot, but

Tennessee seems to be paying off a lot of contracts of former coaches right now and, even with all that SEC money, their athletic department is watching $$ pretty closely.

When I saw Gregg today, he didn't seem to have a care in the world. We talked about how much fun the auction will be in two weeks. FYI, that's the auction that funds the ability for him, the staff and players to travel via private jet for recruiting and games.

A quote from the article linked above, just to illuminate the situation:

"Me personally, I’m not a jumper. There’s a lot of goodwill that Wichita State has built up, and the community of Wichita, with me personally. So it’s going to take one heck of an offer. I’m sure Shaka and Coach Few and those guys feel the same way.”

“I can’t speak for those other gentlemen,” he said of Few and Smart, “but I’ve got a family. My wife Lynn was a college basketball player. She’s deeply invested into our program as well as the community.

“I’ve got a son who’s a junior in high school at Trinity Academy in Wichita, and a daughter who will be in the ninth grade next year. So I’ve got 11th- and 8th-graders.

“We’re very happy. We’ve got a wonderful administration that has given us everything we need to be successful.”

It has been assumed by every media outlet and every fan of both Missouri and Tennessee that Marshall was the first guy to get the phone call. Both schools, their fans, and the media have moved on to different candidates. And that's without an announced extension from WSU.

Looks like the Valley is going to get to deal with Marshall for a few more years.
