Big Ten vs Big East tipoff challenge

Really good idea to create an event at the beginning of the season to create some interest. Would love to see Elgin find a league to do something similar.

I believe Elgin has said that the MWC-MVC Challenge won't be happening again anytime soon. An MVC-Anyone Challenge probably won't happen anytime soon either. He did say that he's been working on getting some made for TV games for the top teams in the conference and possibly doing something like a conference challenge involving the top 3-4 teams in the conference. I wonder if some of the little sisters of the poor in our conference complained about having to take a bus ride to the Mountain timezone.

I'm guessing it's difficult to find a decent conference that wants to match up with the multiple 200+ RPIs at the bottom of the conference. There is not good match for the Valley right now.

Wait 3 years, and we can try scheduling one with the Big East.

Join with the MWC to have the top 5 previous year SOS from both the MWC and MVC play the Big XII teams. Incentive to schedule up and be involved in the games... Returns could get a little tricky as some would fall in and out of the top five, but it could lead to some interesting match-ups.

Don't need to call it a challenge or anything at all really... Just decent basketball games that should probably be happening between many of these schools anyway.

One big part of every challenge is a TV partner. MWC/MVC challenge never really established one. Whatever Elgin can put together, it's likely he'll need ESPN on board with it.

I've been yelling it for years; we need a WCC/MVC challenge. Just leave out Gonzaga and our last place team if they're the ones holding it up (I guarantee Gonzaga wouldn't go for it). We can get ESPN to air a doubleheader one day with our top 2 matchups, right?

The closest conference (in ranking) right now it the MAC. I'm certain ESPN can't wait to air that WSU/Toledo matchup. Throw in Western Michigan/Indiana State, Northern Iowa/Buffalo, and Akron/Missouri State to complete the top 4 from each conference.

The teams in the Valley need to raise the bar a couple of LARGE notches before anything resembling a conference challenge makes any sense.

One has to look no further than a breakdown of the latest 2014 Rivals Top 150 recruits by conference commitments to see an area where the MVC bar needs to be raised:

27 - Atlantic Coast
22 - Southeastern
21 - Big 10
20 - Big East
19 - Pacific 12
11 - Big XII
7 - American
6 - Mountain West
3 - Atlantic 10
3 - West Coast
2 - Conference USA
1 - Missouri Valley

Meh. While there is some merit to the recruiting services, a lot of times guys will go from 2*s to 3 or 4*s just because they receive an offer from a good BCS school, which can really skew these numbers.

Outside of the Top 20 or so, you really start getting into needing guys that fit your team, and are willing to put in the work.

I think the recruiting has been really impressive in the Valley this year despite the rankings. Three of WSUs freshman (Brown, Kelly, & Hamilton) have been "mentioned" by recruiting services as "Top 100 type."
