If so I agree, that was one of the 10 worst calls I've EVER seen, and I've seen some bad ones.

Anything less than a double digit win will mean WSU has played it's poorest game of the year and is not prepared to be the championship team for which they have been constructed.

That is funny stuff right there. Game has not been played and excuse has already been laid. Just another example of giving your opponent zero credit.

 I didn't see any excuse in WuDrWu's post. I think most people, myself included, think if WSU plays a good game, we're not gonna beat them at their place. I've only seen a handful of WSU's games, so I don't know if they'd have to play their poorest game of the year, either way, they play a good game and I don't like our chances. Why try to get into pissing matches when we're facing an uphill battle anyway??? As far as anyone blaming the refs, get over it, it's part of the game, both teams have to deal with it. Btw, anyone know if this game is going to be online anywhere???

Nobody is trying to get in a pissing match. I read it the way I read it. If I was wrong, I am sorry. But if WSU does lose, which I don't think will happen, then it is a simple excuse to say we played terrible. Instead of saying that, IMO, you need to tip your cap and give credit to the other team. This excuse implies the loss was based soley on what you did on the floor and gives no credit to why you may have played bad.

I never said anything about the refs. I hate people that blame games on the refs. I will never, ever, ever do that.

What makes you think we are better than last year? Both years we are heading into MVC with a 6-4 record. Yes, we beat Butler but they were minus their point gaurd. Yes we are on a 3 game winning streak. All of them at home and 2 of 3 teams are sub 300 power rated teams by Sagarin. The other we lost by 12 to on the road and only won by 2 against on our home court. Yes we played well against IU for a half but we also played horrible the other half. IU has now lost 3 in a row and is starting to look like the last place team in the big 10. Our star player (according to most) has stunk on ice against the 3 best teams we have played this season. UNC, which isn't a great team, embaressed us from the opening tip on our home court. I remember all thge other Aces fans saying how they were going to be so competitive in the MVC going into conference play last seaon and I think we all remember how that went.

Yes, I find it disgusting when fans actually try to be optimistic.....who in the hell do they think they are?!?!?!? A real fan spends his time on message boards constantly trash talking their team, coach, star player, schedule, and anything else remotely related to the program.....you show 'em fool, show 'em how a real fan should act.

I don't see a problem with a fan of the preseason #1 team thinking his team would need to play poorly to get beat by the preseason #10 team in the season opener. Based on everything we know, WSU should have the talent and experience to win this game, perhaps comfortably. If WSU plays reasonably well, but Evansville does something oustanding, like shooting 60% from from the field to beat the Shockers, I'm sure there will be plenty of praise here for the Ace's performance.

That is just it. If UE wins, I don't think there will not be one person that comes on here and said WSU played well.

I also don't think UE would be picked to finish last if you voted all over again. I could be wrong, but I think they would have moved up a few spots.

What's the excuse in that post? I don't seem able to find it.

That looks like a pretty honest assessment and gives UE the credit they deserve. UE is one of the "do more with less" type of teams in the Valley. Maybe this year they will actually "do more", unlike all the years in my recent memory.

It's hard to give a lot of credit to a perennial one and done team that loses that one game in St. Louis on a Thursday night. Come up out of the basement and you'll get some credit and maybe some respect.

Maybe that is WSU coaching staffs attitude also and why WSU struggles with UE because they don't give them any credit or respect.

If WSU loses it will be their poorest performance of the season.

I don't think there will be any problem with WSU fans not giving credit to UE for what they did to cause WSU to play their poorest game of the season. Overlooking a team and playing like crap is one thing. That happens over the course of a season and sometimes it has nothing to do with the opponent when a team plays poorly.

This is the first conference game, so the "we overlooked an opponent" excuse (or reason) is off the table.

Accusing WSU fans of making excuses before the game is played "just in case WSU loses" is weak. That would indicate there is some consideration of actually losing the game among WSU fans. It invites smack talk, and this paragraph is a perfect example of that type of smack talk.

Actually, I'm a bit encouraged by UE fans inviting smack talk from WSU fans. It means the UE fan base hasn't given up on the Aces yet. That's a good thing. Maybe some Aces fans will jump on the bandwagon and buy all-session passes for St. Louis. WSU fans arriving on Friday are always looking for a good deal on tickets from fans whose teams aren't playing any more.

I've moved UE up in where I think they will finish in the league race, but until something else is seen and proven, they're still done in St. Louis before Friday rolls around.

Before you accuse me of being an elitist WSU fan, I was a WSU fan through the '90's when WSU was the one and done on Thursday team. I said the same thing about WSU then that I'm saying about UE now.

Until we as fans can quit making excuses for this program and stop acting like the team is improving (when it isn't), the powers that be will keep on doing the same old thing and leave us with the same coaching staff and same old tired style of play. Maybe if we can get the higher ups to realize this program is going nowhere, maybe they will clean house and bring in a new coach with a more modern style of play that would be more appealing to the more athletic type of player. Sorry, but UE needs to break away from its past and start looking to the future.

I don't totally disagree with this. But how did Merfeld stint turn out? Simmons is the coach and I believe he deserves a chance. I would give him till Ryan's senior year. That would be 6 years. If he can't do anything by then then it is time for yet another change. As good as a guy as he might be, this is college basketball and it all depends on W's.

Back to the Shockers, can UE stay within 13?
