I think the sun will come up tomorrow for the MVC and it will continue to do so for a very long time.
I didn't know that Red, the originator of this thread, and that of the title of this thread, had any ties to Omaha. There are several other posters without ties to Omaha expressing concerns as well. So if you want to comfort yourself with that, fine, but it really is just sticking your head in the sand. The fact of the matter is this, the power 5 want UNI, SIU, Drake, Evansville and others out of the game. They will ramp up spending. The power 5 isn't doing this to help out their poor, hungry athletes. They are doing this to give them an unfair advantage over all other schools. They used the threat of leaving the NCAA as leverage to get all voting members on board. They will start by paying athletes full cost of attendance. They will then add scholarships. Increased insurance benefits, and not in the too distant future, these athletes will get raises. Do you not think that eventually the argument will be the need to compensate athletes at least to the current poverty level? I mean, how do you expect these kids to live, study and perform if they are forced to live below poverty? For those keeping score at home, poverty level is $11,670 for a single person. The power 5 are already talking about raising the scholarship limit to 15, so start doing the math. Or don't they do math outside of Omaha? By the way, I have a niece that plays for Illinois State, have a nephew that plays for North Dakota State and have another nephew that just finished playing for Drake. The Valley is more than an Omaha thing for me.
There are three rules that I live by, never get less than 12 hours sleep, never gamble with a guy who has the same first name as a city and never get involved with a chick with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Stick to that and everything else is gravy!
