Points tough to come by in MVC

By Paul Suellentrop
The Wichita Eagle

Nothing puts the stops to a good scoring run better than the Missouri Valley Conference schedule.

Wichita State scored 70 or more points in 10 of its 14 games against non-conference opponents last season. In 21 games against MVC opponents, it broke 70 points eight times.

The Shockers (9-2) are again scoring plenty of points — 70 or more in nine games and averaging 75.4. Starting Wednesday against Evansville, points will become a lot more precious. MVC teams don't give up many layups or open lanes to the basket. It can be ugly, yet effective.

I'll take Evansville straight up. That Butler win was impressive and WSU is no Butler.

The thread title is appropriate. The Shockers are bringing it, leading 24-8.

Congrats on the win. I know nothing about the game, not around a radio. I just saw a score of 59-40. I don't know who as done what for either game.

Need to bounce back against ISU.

WSU is playing the wrong team tonight. They should be playing Kansas. After hitting their 10 or 12 to start the game and now hitting 12 of 14 for the second half, I would take them straight up against Kansas. WSU deserves all the praise for tonight's game and if they can play this good for the remainder of the season, they will go deep in the NCAAs. Congrats to the shockers even though the game is not officially over!
