Updated MVC Power Rankings - December 9

One month into the season so we've got a pretty decent sample size for these rankings compared to our last iteration. Top 3 haven't changed, but plenty of other movement.

I really think that the George Mason team that UNI played is far better than their record, they have had a difficult schedule, and would not surprise me to see them top 100 RPI at the end of the season.

I agree with these rankings I would say that I would like to see Evansville beat someone good before we hand out too much praise, a close loss to a good team is what they are going on. However, I do see them finishing top 4 in the Valley.

I pretty much agree with this post. The Aces could be somewhat overrated due to a weak SOS so far, but I think that this game at Belmont tonight will see what the Aces are really made of. Belmont has a better RPI ranking than the Aces, and will be playing on their home floor where they have won 59 of their last 61 games. I judge that Belmont is better than 2/3's of the Valley teams we will play, so that will give us an idea of how the Aces might do against the better Valley teams.

It's not gonna matter who The ACES play and defeat, on this site.
Tonight, they could demolish Belmont, in Nashville, by 20 plus. Afterwards, the comments would be, "Belmont is having an off year and are over rated". Or, win in a squeaker by 3 and the comments would be, "Evansville is so lucky".
My God, some in here have even turned the university's name of "Evansville", into a verb. i.e... "Getting Evansvilled"....
So, just praise all VALLEY teams until Jan.1
Then, you can start dividing the room.

go aces

False. They do, however, ACTUALLY have to play someone and beat them. They haven't done that.

False again. Belmont appears to be having a decent year. Looks like they might finish in the Top 100 of the RPI. Beating them AT Belmont would be a decent win. How good remains to be seen, but it looks pretty good with the info we have right now.

I think you're missing the point. It seems like every year, Marty puts together a s***-tastic schedule. Evansville reels off 4-5 straight wins against the doughiest part of the cupcake. Evansville fans start predicting things like 14-4 records in the Valley and comparing their high-volume scorer flavor of the year to All-American candidates across the country. Valley fans everywhere say "let's wait and see." Evansville fans get upset that Valley fans are not taking them seriously. Then Evansville plays a road game or a team with a pulse and they get destroyed.

There is a way to change this narrative, but it involves winning games. Maybe even some tough games. Over the past 5 years, Evansville is 27-26 in the regular season non-conference against D1 opponents with an average non-conference SoS at 250+. In fact, only one of those years was the non-conference SoS lower than 230. There is a reason fans of other Valley teams are a little slow to hand out the congratulations, stop the presses, and start the parades.

Having said all that, I think you'll find that most Valley fans are pulling for Evansville to win in the non-conference. I hope they get past Belmont tonight. It would be a good win, and one of the best non-conference wins of Marty's tenure. Good luck!

I think most posters on this forum have been very fair to Evansville. Aces just need to keep winning and they'll garner even more respect.

We haven't proved anything yet. I do feel like we finally have a good balanced team though. Now it is time for them to go out and prove it not only for themselves but for Evansville. Many people in Evansville feel the way many posters on this board feel. Last year had a lot of people talking until we went to IU
and laid a goose egg. Then went to Ohio and got blown out. Until we start winning the games and prove we belong I don't expect us to get any respect. Now is the time to go get that win at Belmont then run the rest of the non conference schedule out.

I went to the Belmont and Western Kentucky game. Belmont is well coached and can do a team in from three. They play very smart. May go to the game tonight.
