Would it better to say it is more a fanbase rivalry and a coaching rivalry then actually Isu vs Wsu?
Both fanbases don't really care for each other the last couple years and same with the coaches on both sides

Not quite. The biggest issue, by far, is the game in St. Louis (2012 I think?) where ISU sunk to sending multiple players, but especially Wilkens after Garrett Stutz, a player who was essentially unstoppable at that point in his career. Multiple cheap shots including 2 nad checks that I know of and one of the poorest officiated games I've ever seen and ISU was allowed to advance.

Wilkins was thrown out (in today's world, he would have been easily identified on replay with an F2 and thrown out earlier and probably suspended beyond that) but Stutz was also given 2 unnecessary fouls due to his testicles being assaulted.

Other behavior in that game from ISU was also a problem, the Stutz thing was just the worst.

Then there was the incident a couple of years prior (forgive me that I can't remember the exact year) where one of the ISU guards celebrated on Devlin Court by sliding onto halfcourt at the buzzer (totally unneeded) then the team doing their best Miami U impression by jumping up and down on WuShock....petty, maybe, but it was an over the top celebration that had nothing to do with postseason et al, they just wanted to beat WSU (and I don't even think WSU was that good at the time).

How could they not have the contents of a scrotum package?
Wouldn't conference scheduling assure at least two meetings a year?

It was a joke. ISUr wasn't in the conference yet. As such, they didn't have to deal with another pretty solid decade of WSU bball, though completely unrelated to their own doing.

That was during Marshall's first year at WSU 2007-2008, the second conference game of the season. The Shocks ended up in the play in round in St Louis that year, but I believe Brauer had just gone down with a concussion the game before against Drake and the season went downhill after that.

If you're right (no reason to question it) then Clemente was out too. I bet Griskanis and Preadom logged a bunch of minutes that night too. None of which matters...that ISU team was a lot better than a team that Gregg was stuck with that had maybe 5 D1 athletes at the time. Mantas went down shortly thereafter making bad just a little worse. But the point was that the Birds had an over the top celebration (not like a last second game winner) on the visitors court, for no real reason.

Too funny.
Should know just a little more of you MVC history.
Illinois State joined The VALLEY, in 1981.
Actually finished ahead of WSU, a few times, in The 80's.
Just as I thought, some or perhaps many SHOX fans are little more than band wagon jumpers.
A lot of comments posted in here, are starting to make a whole lot more since now...

You're correct of course, that's my mistake. For some reason I had 91' in my head instead of 81'.
