When a team is stifled for the first 20 seconds of the shot clock currently, they often hold the ball for 5 seconds until the clock is under 10 seconds before making a move. Cut the 5 seconds of stall.

I assume the 10 seconds to cross the mid court line will still be in effect? The women have a 30 sec clock, but no 10 second rule.

Two changes i would like to see is give everyone who hasn't fouled out at the end of regulation an extra foul and don't reset the 10 seconds to the full amount when a time out is called. if under 5 play with 5, if over play what it is.

As a HS ref, the idea of not resetting the 10 second count, while interesting, isn't really feasible. Unless you're going to have a visible countdown clock run from the table or something, I just don't see how that would work. Often official's positions will rotate following a timeout, so it won't be the same official who started the count. Plus, the coaches will want to know how much time.

That is my thought too, kind of hard to track. Maybe the only argument against it (and a very good one).
You can draw similarities to the 25 second play clock, in HS at least, there is no provision to pause it etc. if we reset it goes to 25 no matter what/why. NFL/college goes back to 25.

When I saw this yesterday I assumed they meant the 2015 preseason NIT, the one in November. But realizing that, I agree with your position.

Love the idea of a 30 second shot clock. Don't care too much about the restricted area, but I think extending it might be a good idea too. I think the 30 second shot clock will work well for getting a little more flow, and speed the game up which is needed. How about we go with 4 quarters instead of 2 halves as well? Why are there just halves and not quarters anyway?

Also while we are at it can we add a shot clock to the high school game? I would also like to see the high school court the same size as college, but one step at a time.

Quarters instead of halves would be okay, but only if the quarter break replaces an existing media timeout. I really don't think it makes that much of a difference, and if anything, it would just add two more opportunities to run down the clock, holding for a last shot.

It's a little far afield, but I can't see shot clocks in high school working out, except maybe for very large class schools. Running a shot clock is not an easy job, and to find volunteers to do it at every single high school isn't feasible. To say nothing of the installation costs.

How's it going to affect a team that takes 30 seconds to decide whether it wants to shoot or not?

I know that South Dakota has had a shot clock for at least six years. If the small towns out there can handle it, I'm sure the little tiny Iowa school districts can as well. The few games I saw there would be some ugly shots occasionally as the shot clock was winding down.

In college, wouldn't the shot clock act as a natural timer? Hard to lose track following a timeout when you have "28" or however many seconds staring right at you above the rim.

If you were strictly talking about the difficulties of applying the rule to high school basketball, I misunderstood your point and apologize.
