I don't think his plan of leaving 3 point shooters wide open had anything to do with the job Moc & Moore (had one block) did against Tuttle. How many times did the attempted double in the paint actually get to Tuttle? Most of the time the double never happened as the ball was kicked as soon as the perimeter shooter was left alone.
The plan should have been to play one on one on Tuttle (maybe with a little help from the other post) and stayed on the shooters.
OR play a 3-2 zone so the perimeter was covered all the time.
The other issue is the spacing on the ACES offense, there is no room in the middle for another person. I hope Marty took note of the Panther's spacing, especially in the second half, many times there wasn't a man INSIDE the 3 point arc unless he was cutting. Even at that moment it was only 1, not 4 like UE has within 3 feet of the lane at all times.
Let me know the next time someone plays Tut one on one the entire game and wins that battle.
Next year, most likely.
In the D-League or overseas.
Seth will likely face someone in the NCAA tournament that can match him.
I just don't know of any MVC team that can say "just play him one on one and defend the shooters". WSU has the talented players to do it, but Seth has a massive experience factor to kick the ball right back out, repost, and find a way to win that battle.
We saw that with Mock the other night. Mock may have had initial position when Tut got the ball, but Tut was real quick to kick out and repost in just a slightly different spot forcing Mock out of his comfort zone, out of position just enough to blow by for a reverse dunk, or force a double which leads to a no look instant cross court pass to an open Bohannon for a 3.
The absolute best part of Tuttle's game is his vision and understanding of where people are on the floor. Some of the passes he makes, ball fakes on passes, etc... are things I've never seen a UNI post player be able to do - and very very few MVC post players.
The Evansville game had perfect examples - I already mentioned the blow by dunk off a repost, I mentioned the no look cross court pass to an open Bo for 3 (that actually happened 3 or 4 times to different guys), but he also caught the ball at the top of the key in the first half and as the defense was shifting he threw a ball fake to Marv at the block which drew 2 guys plus forced Mock to drop off Tut to go after a post up and as soon as the defenders shifted their weight to Marv he pulled the ball back and kicked it to the wing for a 3 by Bo or Paul (don't remember which one).
CORRECTION:
The blow by dunk wasn't a repost, but rather forcing Mock to try to guard him from 13 feet out and decide if he wanted to bite a shot fake....he did...got embarrassed.
