1: Gregg was salty after the upset in St. Louis 4 years ago. He didn't follow the correct press conference procedure after the game. He also wasn't very gracious in defeat. Remember that that all took place under Jank. Before that moment, Redbird fans and Shocker fans got along pretty well.

2: The Kung Fu Carmichael game was followed up with a post-game altercation between Marshall and Muller regarding, many assume, Dana Ford. I don't know the details. I wasn't there. Neither was anyone on this board. It very well could have been Muller and Co. who instigated. Obviously there were some hurt feelings there.

If you want to sequence the events:
1. Wilkins/Stutz squabble led to Redbird upset
2. Upset led to salty Gregg Marshall
Jank leaves = Muller enters
3. Muller hired away Dana Ford.
4. Post-game dust up following Kung Fu kick.
5. Teddy Hawkins signed with Illinois State
-Never understood the animosity since Gregg cut him loose long before he considered the Birds.

So, yeah, I'm saying there's plenty of blame to go around. Right now, the Shockers own the Redbirds, and thus own the internet feud. We all got along just fine before the above sequence of events. Wichita has also gone on to win the last 7 since the upset in St. Louis.

I have no issue with Wichita fans. I've met plenty of good ones in St. Louis over the years. I enjoy seeing Gregg lose, but that's about the extent of it for me. Safe travels to all making the trip this weekend.

1. Wilkins/Stutz squabble led to Redbird upset
"Squabble"? Wilkins kneed Stutz in the nuts - twice - and dropped Stutz to his knees, requiring an official timeout for an injured player.

2. Upset led to salty Gregg Marshall
Actually, the dirty play led to a salty Gregg Marshall. I wouldn't want a coach who wasn't salty after seeing one of his players dropped to the floor by a shot to the nuts. Nice try at blaming the victim, when it was Wilkins dirty play that cause the entire incident.

3. Muller hired away Dana Ford. So, 'Birds fans don't like Marshall because Muller hired Ford away from WSU. That might be a legitimate reason for WSU fans to dislike Muller, not the other way around.

4. Post-game dust up following Kung Fu kick. While we will never know what actually happened, what we do know is that the confrontation occurred outside the visitors locker room. That was reported by Illinois State campus security. I don't know the relative layout of the 2 locker rooms, but the appearance is that the WSU staff was heading to their locker room, while the Illinois State staff was following the WSU staff to WSU's locker room.

It really looks like Illinois State fans don't like Marshall because Illinois State players play dirty, and Illinois State's staff follows the Shox to their dressing room and a confrontation occurs.

Dude...he was giving both sides...relax...

Or because Gregg cut in the press conference line.

I'm a Redbird fan and I don't have a problem with Gregg Marshall or Shocker fans, just Championz. I guess that must put me in the minority. I'm not above poking some fun at rivals and perceived rivals and their coaches on the redbird board but I can't imagine anybody would take message board banter to heart.

Agree. But that's what championz wants. Most shocker fans are totally fine

Most of the Illinois State/Wichita State conflict is good for the fans of both schools. There is a vocal minority in both camps that take it to an irrational level.

I love that we've just broken down the IlSt/WSU fan rivalry to Marshall didn't wait his turn in line >=)

Definitely agreed. Personally, I like the IlSt/WSU animosity. WSU's success lately has made it very tough to have a rivalry with anyone, and the IlSt fans at least add some fun to this. There's some irrational stuff to it, but I like emotional rivalries in college sports. That's part of why I've always preferred college to the pro leagues.

I like this board because I like disagreement and rivalry. I don't like people lying, and I don't like irrational opinions that aren't based in reality ... but any time you can toe the line of rationality and still take shots at each other's teams, I enjoy it.

If IlSt ever starts beating us, we'll have a lot of fun with this animosity.

Sorry Drake and Bradley fans, based on what I'm reading you will be irrelevant next year. It's probably best to just save money not bother going to the games.

Bradley will absolutely be irrelevant. Drake will be competitive. SIU, probably irrelevant? Loyola will depend on Doyle's health. MoSt, irrelevant.
.

I hope you're right about Drake, but I'm not real convinced.....a lot depends on who leaves this spring and who they sign. 5 of Drake's top 7 players this season are seniors, and next year will have no seniors and only three juniors. Bulldogs will have good size (eight guys 6'8" or taller) but will be very slow.

Well, I'm not predicting Drake's going to be GOOD ;) Just competitive.

I do think Ray's a good coach, with some good, young talent. And I'm not too worried about Drake losing five of their top 7 players from an 8 win team. For me, I care more that two of Drake's top three players are a freshman/sophomore combo. But you're right, that's going to be an extremely young team next year. I was hoping for progression to around ~.500, but maybe I'm not taking into account just how many returning players are freshmen right now.

Who are the two non-Envold juniors? JUCO?

The two non-Enevold juniors will be Kale Abrahamson, a transfer from Northwestern and Blake Danielak.

Abrahamson is a 6'8" small forward, local kid, was a top-150 player in high school. Shooter, not very athletic but can run the floor.

Danielak is a 6'8" kid who started several games last season, but has only played in 6 games this season for a total of about 20 minutes. Ray has three guys who play his position coming in next season. Everybody will be shocked if he's actually back. If he leaves, I expect the staff to sign a juco player.

It wasn't a squabble - Wilkins racked him flagrantly. ISUR decided they couldn't beat WSU by playing basketball and started taking cheap shots.

3. Muller hired away Dana Ford.

Ford gave his word to Marshall he would stay 2 years, he broke that promise. Marshall told him he would no longer be able to give him a positive reference if called.

4. Post-game dust up following Kung Fu kick.

You got to love how ISUR melted down that game. It was ISUR coaches that went to the WSU locker room and tried instigating a fight. I think it got started when Coach Jans after the game greeted him with "Liar, Liar, Pants on fire"....

5. Teddy Hawkins signed with Illinois State
-Never understood the animosity since Gregg cut him loose long before he considered the Birds.

WSU didn't cut him loose - he was not a qualifier and he went to prep-school. WSU was offering him a scholarship but he decided he wanted to open up his recruitment again and Marshall said if you are not 100% bought into WSU - we don't want you. Hawkins thought he was going to either the Buckeyes, Nebraska, Iowa State or Tulsa - but he ended up at ISUR....LOL.

2nd there are league rules regarding this situation and then the league didn't go by them (since he had signed a letter of intent with a valley school and then went to another he had to sit out a year). They decided to ignore their own rules and Elgin pulled something out his butt because that Hawkins hadn't qualified he didn't need to sit out for anybody except WSU.. I guess the precedent was started when they let the wookie decommit his son to UNI and transfer him to sCUm.
