The Bears outplayed ISU on the base paths last night, as both pitchers dominated. The Sycamores are gonna have to learn how to manufacture runs...they've got a CLEANUP hitter batting less than .200, which means that ISU will likely end the inning 80% of the time with a FULL PLATE OF NOTHING on the bases. I've never seen a .200 batter in the 4 slot in my 50+ yrs. of following baseball. Is ISU that hard up for a stick?
BTW, the word out on 1B Jeff Zahn is that he's gone for the season with a torn hip rotator cuff (gluteus medius) which requires surgery.
3B Soph Dane Giesler (Jasper/Wabash Valley) is also gone for the yr. with an upper knee injury requiring surgery. Both would've added to the ISU offensive arsenal. Giesler, a native of MLB's Scott Rolen heritage trail (Jasper, IN) had some good #'s in JC ball his 1st season:
