It was Weber's Salukis that won 4 in a row in the early 2000's, and 5 in 6 years. Herrin did not win 3 regular season titles in a row, but he did win 3 tournaments in a row ('93-95):

1908-1912: Kansas (5 in a row)
1912-1914: Nebraska (3)
1922-1927: Kansas (6)
1930-1932: Creighton (3)
1936-1940: Oklahoma State (5)
1941-1943: Creighton (3)
1944-1946: Oklahoma State (3)
1958-1963: Cincinnati (6)
1967-1969: Louisville (3)
1969-1971: Drake (3)
2002-2005: Southern Illinois (4)

Wow. Yeah I got bad information. Thanks for the detailed list.

Still 3 in a row is impressive. ;)

The Get-Hot-For-A-Weekend Invitational doesn't say as much IMO. That tournament is used to help the teams that were too weak in the regular season to gain a bid, but instead used a weekend of a magic to get into the dance.

Regular season championships carry more weight because they are played out over the course of an 18-game round-robin. That's why KU fans are bragging up their Big 12 regular season championships and don't give two shits about their Big XII tournament titles.

But some do care more about the conference tournament, probably because that's the only meaningful games in their entire season.

Not as big of a deal. A team gets hot and can win 3 games in 3 days. Although you can say the same thing about the NCAA Tournament, MLB Playoffs, NHL Playoffs, NFL Playoffs, etc.

It is quite a bit different in MLB, NBA, and NHL playoffs since you have to win a series of either 5 or 7 games to advance.

True. Okay NFL playoffs.

NBA & NHL Playoffs lasts about 3 months it seems.

I got what you were saying though. A tournament is really not necessarily the best way to determine a champion. Especially the set up of a conference tournament in basketball.

I agree 100% but it's the same in the NCAA tourney IMO. Yet Shockers fans claim that getting to a Final Four as a poor seed validates how good of a season they had even though WSU didn't win either the regular season or tournament title that season IIRC. It was just getting hot at the right time and shouldn't be viewed any different than that. Quite frankly the following two years were more impressive to me because they won title(s) even if their NCAA exits occurred more quickly.

Agree here. Matchups play a major role in the NCAA Tournament, regardless of seeding.

And sorry for my somewhat repeat post, did not see what Champ said.

The postseason is where all the notoriety is. The regular season sets up the postseason. A conference tournament is a bit different than the actual NCAA Tournament. Of course teams get hot at the right time and get credit for that also. Since that's how sports are judged, it would be foolish to diminish a Final Four. A Final Four and a regular season conference championship are above the level of a conference tournament championship, unless that is the only way you're getting into the dance, which it is a big deal for a lot of mid majors and low majors.

Also, WSU had major injury issues in 2013 that probably didn't help that season. Wessel was out. Baker came back for St. Louis. Carl Hall missed a decent amount of time too. It's not shocking to see the shaky conference season, which still ultimately finished 2nd and only a game back from a conference title.
