The way the Shox were shooying free throws, not sure calling fouls would have helped them.
Not many teams out there more athletic than Louisville but the Shox didn't really look overmatched as much as they just were a little intimidated.
Not very impressed with Willis. You can see the potential but he really has taken/missed a lot of shots. Reaves looks good for a Frosh but not what I was expecting hearing the Shox faithful on this site.
Shockers and Panthers seem to be way ahead of everyone else right now.

WSU never quite found their composure, and indeed too many of them did play like they were intimidated. Have to realize regarding Reaves, this was his first exposure playing against top level D1 basketball players. Certainly Willis, Shamet and Smith also haven't ever played a team of Louisville's caliber. Those guys and several others without that excuse just weren't ready to face the number 1 defense in the nation. But each of those 4 guys are very good and will continue to get better. If this was the first time I'd seen them play I wouldn't have been very impressed. Nevertheless, they competed and never caved. When you see these guys come MVC play I think it will become clear that they are seriously good.

And, Giacoletti leads them to an 11 point loss, despite having the lead with 4-5 minutes to go. Down 9 with 2 minutes to go, doesn't try to press or foul. I truly don't think he understands the concept of extending the game by increasing the number of possessions at the end.

His Big 10 transfer, Graham Woodward, finished with 0 points and 5 turnovers in about 10 minutes of play. Yep, that's a starting point guard. Yep, him and Abrahamson were going to lead Drake to the promised land.

So far, on Turkey Day the Valley goes 0-2 as the Shockers lost to Louisville 62-52. For what it's worth they scored only 5 more points against the Cards than Evansville did on the Cards home floor, but gave up considerable less points than the Aces did. The Shocks were never going to win that game, but did put up a good fight. The Shocks don't need a football team, they already got one to play basketball. They just drive for the basket, and if anybody gets in their way, they just run over them.

Completely disagree that WSU was never going to win that game. The game was in doubt up until 2 min left. Wsu was within 2 possessions and had the ball multiple times. Just couldn't get shots to fall when they needed.

No, the game was determined after the opening tip, when Morris sleptwalk through the first 3 possessions and Louisville pretty much grabbed all of the momentum.

It's easy to say that if the shots would fall, they would have won, but Louisville dominated that game from start to finish. DOMINATED. They are long, athletic, disruptive, and could hit an outside wide-open corner 3 from time to time. WSU looked like they weren't ready for the big stage yet and that is somewhat expected with all of the inexperience. It was pretty fortuitous that only ended up being a 10 point margin.

If WSU wants to prove their first 4 games weren't just flukes against weak competition, then they need to close out the deal with Michigan State tomorrow. MSU is struggling big time. I'm not sure how good they'll end up being, but it would be a win over a big-time program and still prove to be a big RPI boost. That's a game they need to get.

There were a lot of negative things that could be said about the Shockers performance today, and you missed on all of them.

WSU didn't make the open shots. Anytime you miss open shots against a high level team you are going to have some struggles, but that will sometimes happen, and credit Loisvilles defense here. The reason I think they lost the game is because we got beat on 50/50 balls and offensive rebounds (for the first 30 minutes). The Shockers didn't close out well enough and Louisville took advantage of the second chance shots. The height/length of Louis took away a lot of the dribble penetration that had worked well in the first five. WSU didn't adjust. We looked lost on the press and on the press break and weren't as physical as the Cardinals.

There was a time in the 2nd half where they could have cut it to 3 but they couldn't hit a free throw or grab rebound to save their lives. They never really threatened. They were totally out of it. If you want to moral victory it out and say they looked awesome and cut the game to 6 for a second in the second half, then go for it. Us realists will say they were never in that game and were totally out played.

"Us realists" ? ..No Louisville dominated about 5 to 10 min of the first half, then the game was even or moving towards WSU most of the rest of the game. WSU didn't look good, but neither did Louisville. To say that Louisville dominated tip to finish is a flat out lie
