Honestly, Illinois State's scrimmage at UIC is really lame. I know scheduling is tough but ISU could've added one more noncon game. UIC would've been a good one on the road. Other than finding a date that worked, one could think Muller didn't want to get publicly beaten by his protégé, Luke Yaklich, who is going to have UIC rolling very soon.

I don't expect UIC to do well any time soon. I do expect ISU to be bad though.

He brought in a boatload of transfers last year and sucked. How long we giving him to finish in the top half of that basketball blue blood conference?

He's been there a year. Hired during COVID. It takes time to build a program and I think he'll do it. As you know from being a Birds fan...it's tough to build anything sustainable with a boat load of transfers. Especially in year 1 when you couldn't have a real offseason. It looks like he brings back most of his team from a year ago, so some continuity will be there with year 2 in his system. They're an older team, too with 5 underclassmen. 5 grads, 4 seniors, and a pair of juniors.

So, I'd like to give him more than a year at his first HC job to determine his viability as a HC.

I'm told that UNI blew out NDSU in a 35 minute game (they also played a 15 minute period with no starters eligible).

Game was more or less over 8 minutes in and UNI was led by AJ Green and Nate Heise in scoring.

Loyola beat Wisconsin 71-56 in a full 40 minute scrimmage. Williamson had 16. Hutson had 12. Nine Ramblers played double digit minutes--DEEP. (Per Jon Rothstein and another source that was in attendance)

Everybody playing with 14, 15, 16 scholarship players is going to be really interesting. Realistically, it's hard to play more than 9 or 10 guys so there's going to be a lot of egos to massage.

Not a "secret scrimmage", but Drake held an intrasquad scrimmage for the public on Thursday.

They played four quarters, with players being shifted from one team to the other every quarter. The first quarter was the starters vs the reserves. 8 minutes in, the reserves led the starters 24-4. All of the starters were starters last season on an NCAA tournament team.

I think it's safe to say that Drake will have some depth this season, but so will most teams.
