The UNI-SIU was a bizarre one to watch even if you expected UNI to win comfortably. Took thenPanthers a while to get going and even then they didn't look like the team from the past few games. Not sure if they took SIU lightly and played down to them or what but it was ugly unless your name was Seth Tuttle or Nate Buss. Those two combined for 39 pts on 15-21 shooting. Took the Salukis 44 shots and 13 trips to the charity stripe to hit that same figure. Besides a Marvin Singleton rebound and score in the opening minutes, Tuttle was the only starter to score for the Panthers. The other 4 went 1-13 (0-6) and didn't attempt a free throw. They did chip in for 14 Rebs and 4 assists but tonight it was all about giving it to Seth and Nate.
Anthony Beane made 1 free throw tonight. Aside from a few rebounds and turnovers that's his only stat from 36 mins of play. However Jordan Caroline and Sean O'Brien both looked really nice for SIU. O'Brien can shoot and Caroline and Bola Olaniyan did a good job of getting to the line even when their shots weren't falling. Like BCPanther said in another thread these guys may not all be MVC caliber players but they work hard and don't give up even when they get pushed around. Still, that's a bad team. They did run into a strong Panther defense but the shots were even worse then the shot selection.
Strangest stat of the night: no one listed as a guard for either scored in the first 25+ mins until Wyatt Lohaus knocked down a jumper around the 14:20 mark in the 2nd half. Never heard of something like that.
[Insert snappy comeback]
