Maybe the plays happen so fast that its a tough call. Is it just me though or does the flopper get the call 90% of the time? Hey if I am a coach I would teach and use flopping, but its stupid. Watch the flopper when he gets the call, its a big joke.

Colman and Eglseder would have been embarrassed by the lack of physical play by UNI last night.

When a player flops, 90% of the time there is contact, and the flop forces the official into making a decision. If you just let yourself get knocked back a step, it's more likely to be a no call and it creates seperation allowing the offensive player to get the shot off clean.

Sometimes I get frustrated with flops, but I really don't recall any last night.

And what I'm talking about doesn't involve anyone going down.

I am talking about 2 things in regards to flopping.

1. The guy that goes into a play with the intent to cause an offensive foul. We all know that ploy and it works. There was not a lot of that last night.

2. The other type is a light person guarding a heavy person. Echinique has the right to move. Echiniquye has the right to put his arm into the air. There were occasions last night he was called for a foul for doing just that. In reality he had 2 or 3 fouls last night. No conspiracy. No anti CU deal. More of a lack of understanding of the weight issue.

I believe the foul was called because he pushed the guard off with his arm.

Even McDermott didn't argue that call. In fact, after most of his fouls McDermott talked to him, not the officials. If that doesn't say anything about the fouls, I don't know what does. :)

How do you know McDermott wasn't saying, " I know the refs suck, now just calm down"?

On a side note: Bench warning? Two of them and one at MSU? What the hell is that? Call a Technical or play ball.

Fair enough. Warnings were funny because I think both coaches wanted the T.

pantherrob82 wrote:Here's what I don't get in the MVC. Players LIKE Echinique and Teague lower their shoulder and drive defenders back. Not just in UNI games, but in general. You can see the defender stand their ground, but the big guys push them back 6 inches at at time. But if the defender does anything to fight the push, it's a foul.

To me, slamming into a defender with your shoulder is just as much of a foul as them trying to counteract it. Let them play or call the offensive foul as well.

:+1:

In the Drake-MSU game, Drake's starting center picked up 2 fouls in the first 4 minutes, and both were exactly what you described. Then DU's backup center came in and picked up 2 fouls in 5 or 6 minutes, on similar plays. Creekmore would just physically move them 4-5 feet backward with his forearm and shoulder, but the minute they bodied him up, foul on DU. Maybe the key for the defender is to flop, rather than take a step back, every time the offensive player rams into you.
