Not quite that easy, South Dakota had some really weird contract laws for State employees that they're working on correcting. At will employees that they couldn't sign for longer than 18 months at a time. Weird stuff.

That's too bad. I was hoping laws like that would spread to other states. IMO states should protect themselves somehow from their university systems entering multi-million dollar long term contracts, and South Dakota's law is one way to do that.

Have heard for years that NDSU basketball was building for something special and their fans said the MVC would beg them as the MVC needed a Wichita State replacement, and they even upgraded their Quonset hut with a better HVAC system so you don’t repeatedly roast and freeze in the chilly weather because the door let in -30 F temperature. Now at least they added a proper entry with double doors far enough removed from each other so the cold doesnt reduce the temperature by 60 F if someone opens a door and then the heat kicks in blasting fans. Guess it was designed as a regular Finnish sauna with cold and hot air blasting fans. Now the seats don’t give enough leg room now but in another 30 years that will be fixed. Why isn’t NDSU leading the poll?

Getting NDSU will effectively freeze SDSU as a wannabe MVC school, because they are like a Jan Brady school that won’t do anything until Marcia decides. Putting SDSU on the list isn’t possible unless NDSU is already there. They are effectively twins, but NDSU is the bossy one that decides what they will do and SDSU obediently follows. SDSU would be a basket case without NDSU: both fan bases make out together under the stands at halftime as they love each other so much for being faithful partners. It would simply be inhumane to invite SDSU by itself.

Also the MVC needs to play politics with the South Dakota board of higher education. While it not officially a law or anything, USD and SDSU are unofficially tied together. USD had already been accepted to the Summit when it got a Big Sky bid for everything, but the crap hit the fan then. The Summit would have been short a member, and SDSU officials seemed to be very nervous, so a meeting was called among MVFC Presidents, and apparently a demand was made that USD be given an invite too, to save the Summit. The MVFC capitulated, when before it would not, so USD had a conference for football which is why they were interested in the Big Sky. So to get SDSU, the MVC would have a add NDSU and USD, which won’t happen.

Never mind, NDSU just lost to IPFW at the bison home so the season is gone and they even lose most of their scoring and don’t have much coming in.

I know we've moved past it but Id just like to point out that all of the Dakota schools are far behind schools like Loyola, Illinois State and Missouri State in the US News and World Report rankings of National Universities. As far as the claim that the Dakota schools have superior support, Loyola has a larger endowment than SDSU and NDSU combined.

If you are following this thread you likely have picked up on this by now, but UND people have a VERY high opinion of themselves for some odd reason.
I used to hear the phrase “we like the cold, bc it keeps the rid-raf out”.
It always struck me as odd at how well they thought they were doing in the world.

I know we've moved past it but Id just like to point out that all of the Dakota schools are far behind schools like Loyola, Illinois State and Missouri State in the US News and World Report rankings of National Universities. As far as the claim that the Dakota schools have superior support, Loyola has a larger endowment than SDSU and NDSU combined.

In fact, you'd have to combine the endowments of USD, UND, SDSU and NDSU just to equal Loyola's.

Are you suggesting it's the Dakotas or nothing? That any team we could seek to add with Murray State either: 1. Is a speculative play that requires some belief on the part of the MVC that they will be a good addition one day or 2. Is a school like SLU or Belmont who doesn't want to come but we will futilely chase anyway leaving us with nothing?

Am stating that the Dakota's simply won't accept, simply because they have bigger plans for football and the MVC won't accommodate that. Mo St and Ill St need to upgrade fb, but the MVC simply won't listen. If firmly stating an opinion is egotistical, some posters here have a strange idea of ego. The Ohio Valley residents equate strong opinions wth ego as in their view its not neighborly, and they are so in error.

By the way, have lived for long stretches in the Ohio Valley region and further south, and doubt many of the OV residents would have the where-with-all, long term planning skills and psychological fortitude to survive Dakota winters.

Meeting's in less than two weeks. Would love an update on where we stand on this issue which schools are in play etc. Still hoping for Murray State and Belmont but would take NKU Wright State maybe even UIC. As much as I'd like it to I don't see NMSU happening.
