And yeah, there's been some heated exchanges as there always will be, but most of that was within the context of the on the court rivalries. But recently things have really started to deteriorate. I'll take partial blame in I started a thread making fun of the Shockers and their dissatisfaction with the AAC fan board. Seemed like harmless fun. But now all of a sudden we're immersed in general muck raking threads from the SIU incestuous war to a number of fan bases claiming moral superior over another .
I know it's a slow news time for basketball after Loyola's NCAA run, coaching changes, and with most recruiting dying down, but this isn't a good direction for the board. Not trying to tell people what to think or even post, like I said, I contributed. But things can only get ugly when these are the issues we choose to focus on . We might as well invite all the WSU posters back if we want a group more creative and persistent with the "Better than you" mantra.
It's our board and we have to decide the atmosphere we want on it. But this isn't a good direction. jmo
Good post. I used to post a lot more, and can go back to when there was a Valley forum on AOL and Prodigy. The direction the forums have taken as a whole over the last few years has really cut down on my enjoyment of them. I love some good-natured smack and taunting....but there is no question things have crossed the line too many times. The fact that posters are now dox-ing other posters is so far out of limits it's scary. If someone is so triggered by an online post by anonymous posters that they resort to publicly dox-ing them, they are seriously mentally deranged. No question. We had the SIU issue and apparently it is currently going on in the Shocker board. Any moderator that allows such insanity is just as guilty as the whackjob doing it. The legal ramifications for cyber bullying are certainly real.
I don't understand the obsession some have with Wichita at this point. Unless we are playing them, they are no more relevant to me than Tulane or Central Florida. Yes, they have some of the worst posters in all of college basketball, and the sharing of the issues they are causing in the AAC forums does validate what many of us already knew, but after that, let it go.
Even though the arse clowns are primarily gone, there are still a few that are over the top. The Valley is extremely balanced top to bottom, and IMO, is probably the most balanced conference in the NCAA. No one has any inherent advantage over any other member long term. Every single one of us has performed at the national level. We have long traditions, great venues and overall good attendance. Like I said, some good natured smack and jabs are fine, but when some poster goes on a 20 paragraph rant, talking about how much better their program is than the rest of the conference, you simply look like an obsessive fool.
We have had 2 programs hit the final four in recent years. I have not seen a single post where a Loyola fan is lecturing us on how we are holding them back from eternal greatness, or calling us the 9 little dwarfs. I see no quotes from Porter dogging the steak houses in Evansville or slamming the competitiveness of Bradley. As a result, they have the respect and genuine wishes for well being from most of us, while the other is pretty well despised...none of which has anything to do with jealousy. These forums are indeed a small percentage of our fan bases and really don't represent then entire group, but when you post, you certainly can influence how others within this group view your program. I know which of these two programs I actually admire and respect.
