2018 Season

Pretty quiet around here on the baseball front. Should be a great stretch run for the title. Can the Valley get two teams in the tournament?

As of right now MSU and DBU are both projected to make it into the tournament. One could only hope.

Going into the final weekend DBU and MSU are playing for the regular season championship. DBU is currently 1 game back. Whoever wins 2 of 3 will be the 1 seed in the MVC tourney. Bradley will most likely be a 3 seed barring a collapse. INST, SIU, ILST, and Valpo are in a log jam. Then Evansville has the 8 seed locked.

Bear's win opener in Dallas to clinch a tie for 3rd title in 4 years. Last year as they prepared to leave the MVC I remember a couple WSU fans talking how the conference was now Dallas Baptist for the taking as if WSU had much say in it lately anyway. Then I saw the other day how they were lamenting how they would have won the MVC easily this year [they are well under .500 in the AAC]. Delusions and jealousy remain WSU staples, but enough about them. DBU is a quality program and for the Bears to even tie for the title with them in a year when we are definitely down a notch is just a really gritty performance. We couldn't get the quality mid week wins we usually do as our pitching staff had injuries and our lineup didn't jell most of the year enough to out score teams like Okl St, Oregon St, Ark, or even MU, but here we are as no less than Co-MVC Champs and a real chance to still get an at large if we don't win the tourney title. Kudos to Coach Guttin and the Baseball Bears.

DBU bounced back today with a 12-2 win. MSU is still up a game and wins the conference outright with a W tomorrow. If not DBU and MSU are co-champs with DBU getting the #1 seed in the tournament.

It looks like Bradley will definitely be a 3 seed and Indiana State will definitely be a 4 seed. Illinois State lost to Evansville in game 1, so Southern Illinois needs to beat Bradley in at least 1 of their last 2 games or they need Illinois State to lose another game. (SIU owns tiebreaker with ILST.) Valpo is definitely a 7 since ILST owns that tiebreaker and Evansville is definitely an 8 seed.

I think DBU and MSU both have good chances of getting at-larges, especially if they play each other in the championship game. Right now they have DBU in the Fayetteville (Arkansas) regional and MSU in the Chapel Hill (UNC) region. I guess the Razorbacks don't want a repeat of last year  .

Anything other than MSU and DBU in the championship game would be a big surprise. I think Indiana State probably has the best chance to be that "surprise" team. Bradley has a really good team as well, but they've been on a losing streak here lately and would have to play DBU on their home field, which won't be an easy task.
