What has Edwardsville done to get in? Just because they're growing doesn't mean they should be added or that Carbondale should leave but it might not be a bad idea to get your expansion candidate list done sooner rather than later.

I bet if they were both added one of them would win the league within their first few seasons. Neither school wants to lose in any of their sports. Their football teams are solid, basketball is good, and even their baseball is pretty decent. Both schools would end up being UNI type programs, with the potential to be even better. They are both the flagship schools in their states. I think most on here that oppose them (particularly NDSU) are just scared they couldn't keep up with them. Believe me these are the schools that would bring the conference up.

I know there are a lot of football haters on here, but just look at how much they've brought up the MVFC. Last season the MVFC was even with the Mountain West in the power rankings and well ahead of conference like the CUSA, MAC, and Sun Belt. That's unheard of for an FCS conference. The MVC really needs to grab these two before it really is too late.

This is all essentially true. Both schools have good resources and facilities and would compete at the MVC level.
That being said, they can’t get to where they want in the leagues they are currently in. A better play is to keep them at bay by forcing them to join with the Wyoming’s Idaho’s etc.
They both need to get East to become more relevant. Adding them, really helps them, and doesn’t really gain the rest of us much (pretty sure we’ve covered this to death).
I’m only on board with both of them in the event we go to 16 teams.

Troubles is that SDSU plays the Summit tournament at home and they sell out the place. Not sure moving up one notch in leagues is worth losing the advantage they have where they are.

if the medical programs go to edwardsville then i agree. truly i believe siu-c wont even be in d1 in 20 years if they lose the medicals. siu-e will take siu-c's spot and murray state will be 11 once carbondale leaves. they will be able to see if sdsu, nku, or anyone else is the way to go by that time. wait to see about those medicals though but carbondale will be nothing but a directional satellite school in the middle of nowhere soon if it happens. enrollment may very well be under 10,000 in ten years if the medicals go and that's a killer for a public school. maybe the can stay in d1 an extra decade by getting rid of football. but, im getting ahead of myself. no decision has been made yet.

Interesting. I've only been loosely paying attention to the SIUC and SIUE drama. It really is nothing against SIUE the academic institution but their basketball program is sub-300. Many Valpo fans are annoyed that they're even on our schedule... They have a long ways to go to get consideration on the athletics side but a lot can change in 20 years.

I kind of feel for SIUC because it sounds like the SIU president and the SIUE board was plotting against them and it's hurt the University. The rapidly falling enrollment is really alarming. I hope everything works out for SIUC. It would be big for the Conference if they could regain their former glory.

I'm in wait and see mode with NKU and SDSU. NKU is an extremely young program and has never even experienced a challenge like a D1 coaching change yet. SDSU is strong right now with a once in multiple-generation type talent like Daum. I think it would be more appropriate to evaluate them after Daum graduates and see if the program can sustain success.

I don't quite remember but I believe the transfer of medicals to edwardsville is a legislative issue (state run institution) above the president's and boards heads. of course they will have an input but not final decision.

Also, yes, edwardsville sucks. theyve only been in d1 for 10 years. theyll get better. especially if they get into the mvc. and, theyre basically a suburb of st. louis. they'll get recruits. hell, an edwardsville high school had the 2016/17 Illinois Mr. Basketball. East. st. louis is across the street. they are in a good spot.

This isn't like adding Loyola who is in Chicago and who at least had some history of success back in the 60s-80s prior to joining the MVC. We can't afford to just wait on a school in the St Louis suburbs with no history of success to get good. We're in a fight for survival and viability as even a potential multi-bid league. If we add, it needs to be teams that show that they have the potential to be good NOW. If Dayton SLU and Belmont are out, the top of our list needs to be Murray State NKU Wright State and SDSU. If we're talking potential we should be considering Milwaukee UIC NDSU Oakland Detroit Lipscomb Oral Roberts even Denver before we so much as glance in Edwardsville's direction.

I only agree because Edwardsville will always be there for the taking. They have no hope to get a P6 or even AAC and definitely not MWC so they'll always be there. They can just get scooped up if Carbondale ever drops out and they can wear southern illinois on their uniform and nobody will even miss anything

Virtually every program I listed will be there for us and aren't going anywhere that makes potential future admission to the MVC difficult or impossible and I would still take every program on that list before Edwardsville until Edwardsville gives me a reason to believe they would be ready for the rigors of MVC play. I hope they can eventually present a compelling case. The more strong options on the table for us the better, but they still have much to prove.
