The Redbirds showed last night they can play generally poorly on both sides of the ball and still grab a W. If they play like they did last night against good, disicplined teams it'll be a looooong season.
They didn't execute well but pulled off a 74-66 win over FGCU. Phil Fayne, Milik Yarbrough, and Josh Jefferson all scored 17, while Fayne also collected 11 rebounds (one-third of the team's total rebounds). The way Jefferson shoots the ball through the first three games makes me think come MVC play he will need to be on scouting reports similar to Jordan Barnes over at ISUb.
Surprise of the night was the rotation that Muller settled into. The seven that played at least 20 minutes were Copeland, Jefferson, Evans, Fayne, Yarbs, Tinsley, and Hein. Ike Gassman is a sophomore walk-on, started and played 18 minutes. Loyola transfer Matt Chastain and freshman big man Rey Idowu only played two and four minutes, respectively. FGCU didn't have a ton of (bulk) size, which is probably why Rey was out. Chastain just seemed to be the odd man out this go-round. The 8 man rotation will be largely dependent on the team the Birds play. If a team has a Shaq Morris or Greg Echinique, Rey will get minutes.
