Murray and nku would take care of both.

I am totally against any Dakotas. To the point I would be all for Bradley leaving the conference if it happened. I was for Loyola joining, but did not anticipate the jump they made. That was a bonus. It makes me much more positive about Northern Kentucky than I used to be. NKU, Belmont, and Murray are top of my list. With Wright State an ok.

Has there even been the tiniest of hints the valley is still interested in expanding?

Nope. This is one big pro-expansion Murray circle jerk.

Mid Major leagues aren't getting extra bids. The CBS/Turner deal is only going to exacerbate that. They want P5 teams in the tournament because, whether we like it or not, they draw bigger ratings. Fact of Life.

There is absolutely ZERO need to slice the pie any further.

Don't get me wrong, I would rather have MuSu and NKU. I'm just saying that the Dakota schools are not terrible options, outside of travel.

The $ you lose from going 1/12 share to 1/14 share is chump change. It would be made up from a net extra NCAA unit in a decade (Murray State has 2 NCAA wins since 2010).

That’s before you calculate the opportunity cost of Murray fans not filling the empty seats at the conference tournament, which alone could account for the lost $30k.

Besides reports that say that expansion is still an option?

What "reports"? All I'm seeing are some random quotes on Twitter from unverified sources. I want to see the racers join the conf as much as anyone, but the best I'm seeing is a recent quote from Elgin saying expansion is "never completely dead." If it would "enhance" the league to add 2 teams they would do it. Not exactly a tone that inspires confidence they are worried about expansion right now.

And define "enhance" from Elgins perspective. Adding 2 good teams doesn't necessarily enhance a league. Shares of NCAA profit decreases and a shot at multi bids barely rises. I will gladly be wrong on this one, but it seems like a pipe dream at this point.

Sadly, I think you're right, though I suppose it's possible Belmont gets in as an at-large. I'd estimate a 20% chance, and that's probably optimistic.

As a Murray State fan, I think our only real chance to join this league is only if one of the current members leaves. And even then it's not a sure thing.

We need to add Murray, Belmont, NKU, Wright St, and NSDU and SDSU.
Get to 16, unbalance the schedules so that the top 2 can manage the NET and get 2 in each year.
The Split from 2/16 is better than 1/10.

If you are gonna move, better move big and figure it out.
