The big $ conferences know they cannot beat good teams in recruiting, can’t beat good teams consistently on the floor, so now the plan is to starve them out by locking up all of the revenue.

:+1:
Lesser conferences do it. Just excuses. But, we are closing that lesser conference gap fast

That was in response to some larger conferences going to 20 game schedules. Since most of the money from the ncaa goes to bigger conferences in the form of preference in the form of at large bids, the only other way for smaller schools to have that money trickle down is to play buy games. With conferences going to 20 games there will be fewer buy games, further restricting the revenues of smaller conferences.

Buy games don't have anything to do with NCAA money trickling down. That's just a school with large attendance giving the visiting team a cut of its gate.

The Valley schools are less concerned about the loss of revenue via fewer buy games than the loss of opportunities to get a Q1 or Q2 win, which can affect NCAA money via seeding and bids.

That money has nothing to do with attendance. Many of these lower level big conference teams don't draw. Their money comes from the conference (among other sources) which comes from the NCAA. Which comes from bids as that is how the NCAA gives conferences money. That money then goes to smaller schools with smaller NCAA allocations in the form of contracts.

And you miss the overarching point. By controlling the flow of money from the NCAA to member schools, via bids, seeds, and lastly buy games, big $$ conferences are strangling smaller conferences and schools. They all won't affect MVC member schools immediately, but if you think that the Iowa's and Vanderbilt's of the world care one iota about the survival of the MVC and its member schools, you are sorely mistaken.

No s*** they don't care about the MVC. My point is only that the loss of revenue from buy games isn't affecting the Valley hardly at all, and generally isn't derived from NCAA money. Your Oregon States that draw less do tend to go on the road more, sure, and will dig into their reserves to buy some teams if their coach is feeling chickenshit, but that's not their "NCAA money". Probably more from their TV contracts. Of course money is fungible, and so it's arguably all some percentage NCAA money, but to suggest that fewer buy games has anything to do with hoarding NCAA money is far off. Where it hurts the Valley is w/r/t fewer opportunities to play and beat them, not bring home some $30K check.

Several MVC schools rarely do buy games at all. That's more of a Chicago State problem.
