Jim Berry has passed away

Former UNI head men's basketball coach and special assistant for the past two years has passed away. He was diagnosed with bone cancer 18 months ago and had reportedly been fighting a bout of pneumonia recently.

He transitioned UNI from D-2 to D-1, and was an important part of the last couple of seasons for UNI. I know the current staff and players were very close to him. In addition, he recruited Coach Mac to UNI.

He will be missed.

Coach Berry was Head Coach at UNI when we transitioned to Division I. He returned to the bench as a volunteer the last couple of years. MVC fans might have noticed the older gentlemen that accompanied the team recently. He had been battling cancer at the time as well.

Sorry to hear that. It was a neat story last season with him sitting on the bench.
