Valley Exhibition Game Results

Postby Majik45 » October 29th, 2019, 8:43 am

Instead of posting individual threads of all the Exhibition games that are going on, I thought I'd start a thread to contain them all in one place. Please post results and thoughts on exhibition games in here.

Bradley plays their only exhibition game tonight against Division 3 Millikin University which is located in Decatur IL. The game will be at Carver Arena downtown. I plan on attending, so will give a report on it tomorrow.

How are the other Valley Teams doing?

The Aces struggled but won in OT over Southern Indiana.

Plenty to work on, but lots to be excited about as well.

The Aces looked sloppy and selfish, both of which will get corrected.

They also got abused on the low block, which is a problem that is likely to recur all season. With one sharpshooter and no bulk in the post, the Aces will struggle to score if if our guards aren't able to beat guys off the dribble.

UNI doesn't have a true exhibition game but has completed two 'secret' scrimmages.

Beat North Dakota State Mid-80s to low-60s on October 20th in Minneapolis. Reports are that AJ Green had 36 points in 28 minutes and that Noah Carter also had 16.

Didn't play a traditional game with South Dakota State on Saturday (two 20 minute periods and a 4 minute period, cleared score and stats after each). UNI won the two 20 minute periods by double digits. James Betz and Austin Phyfe were the standouts in that one.

ILST was down by as many as 15 points to D2 Truman State, but came back to win 74-68 last Wednesday.

Nine of the 11 Redbirds have not played a college game (outside of the Italy trip) in over a year. It was very clear there were nerves in play. They started the game not having Matt Chastain (broken thumb), Ricky Torres (ankle), or Taylor Bruninga (foot) available. All three, if healthy, are expected to be significant contributors. About 9 minutes into the game, Keith Fisher III also we out of the game. He was hyperventilation and couldn't catch his breath. He sat the rest of the game as a precaution.

The guys this board know- Copeland and Idowu both are clearly playing with more confidence, knowing their roles have increased from a season ago. Senior Jaycee Hillsman was the player of the game for sure- He's a 6'6/7 3 or 4 spot and scored 12 points and collected 11 rebounds in 29 minutes.

DJ Horne reminds me of a young Paris Lee. Smooth jumper and committed on the defensive end. The freshmen the league will be on the lookout from ISU, though is Antonio Reeves from Chicago Simeon. He started the game really nervous but when he settled in, everything look easy for him.

Overall, the nerves lead to tightness on offense, which lead to mental mistakes on defense. The team needs to work on FTs for sure. 13-20. If the nerves are there for next week's opener vs Belmont...things could get ugly really fast.

Feel free to ask any questions about the team. Didn't feel like typing my typical player-by-player run down.

Bradley dominated D3 Millikin tonight and won by about 40. Game was not close at all. Exactly what you would expect from Bradley with what they returned.

Gabriel and Ville (kid from finland) both looked good as far as newcomers. Childs, Brown, Kennel, Bar, and Henry all looked like you would expect. Excited for the season to start next Tuesday night.

Ramblers lose by 5 to D2 UIndy and were never really in the game. Atrocious 3-18 from deep and 17 turnovers sink the Ramblers. Yikes.

On the plus side, Marquise Kennedy is as-advertised. Electric player.

Between Truman, USI, & Indianapolis...damn, the Great Lakes Valley must really not like us claiming “the Valley”.
